Pears concedes in first minute

He's a terrible keeper.

I never understood the w@nkathon that went on about him.

If he was called Pearzinho from outer Mongolia people would have a different opinion.

It is funny how on the old board when one or two of us went against the grain discussing how weak he was and his lack of commanding his box and defenders seemed to become nervous as a result, how many were in uproar at that time. Roll on 12 months

Warnock clearly saw it too. I wish him all the best though.

I think you might be making the opposite point from that which you are trying to make.

I thought that, but he's not.

He's saying that because he's called Pears, after his Dad, he got an easy ride with people.

Which is indeed the opposite of what it usually is, especially with young English attacking players.

Yes. I'm saying because of his background and being young and English everyone thinks he is amazing.

If he was a foreign nobody he'd be thought of very differently and no one would care.

How many keepers really command their box nowadays. Most keepers elect to punch or palm shots with hardly any catching shots. Keepers stay on the line until it gets towards the 6 yards box and then lots still decide to punch it. Heard Bob Wilson talking about how lightweight and fast the balls are now and how this as changed goalkeeping. Only the real elite get anywhere near commanding the box now.

I don't think any of those goals are down to not 'commanding the box' (on overstated comment) or defenders not having confidence in him. It was simply rank bad defending, diving in, turning back on the ball, not getting tight....the basics of defending. Without Ayala they look weak at the back.
