So, how are people's thoughts on the lad?

There has been a lot of talk of "bedding in", "language issues", "getting up to the speed and physicality of the English game".

We're now at the end of September and, to me at least, he's failed to show anything that suggests he merits (or will merit) his price tag. Poor again today, clearly trying to hard and ended up completely ineffective. The Gazette's rating of a '5' seemed generous.

Is he another De Pena or am I just another bedwetter?

Way too early to be overly critical. Crooks is a fantastic addition at the price. The jury is out on the rest of them.

Yes write him off despite not playing in his position.

I think he will turn out to be a good player for us. You can see there’s a player there. He just needs time to adapt and figure the league out. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later, but it would help if we kept the ball on the ground a bit more.

Ditto with Crooks. Looks exactly what he is, lower bottom half championship player. Tries hard and the odd trick but I'm not seeing a good footballing brain there.

Re: Payero, I'm not sure what his best position is and it seems the gaffer isn't either. Seemed to play very deep and whilst he buzzed around and worked hard I can't be alone in thinking an Argentinian u23 international must be one of the most technically gifted players at the club. Need to find a more appropriate role in my opinion.

See also Sporar, we need to find a way to play to his strengths, otherwise why did we sign him?

Crooks is a fantastic addition? Have you seen him play? He is dreadful slow and ineffective. Might win a few headers but they go straight to the opposite team.
Have seen him play in all the home games. “ …slow and ineffective.” you say you have very high standards, bottom line he is an excellent championship player in what looks like a poor to average team.

I’d personally judge more when he performs under a different philosophy of playing. It’s hard to come in and play for a guy whose style of football is so out of sync with your own idea of how the game should be played.
Exactly this.

Your brought up from been a kid in Argentina playing a specific, possession based technical game and get thrown in at the deep end with a manager who doesn't believe in his midfielders passing the ball and only sees them as extra defenders.
