Over 60 - still working?

How is it for you?

I'm 61 and still teaching (part-time at uni and part-time at school). Some days I'd rather just be pottering about and it gets harder to motivate myself to get up and get in the classroom and perform. However, having made the effort it does feel like I've done something useful.

I can't retire due to financial reasons, so just keep going.

Anyone else still at it at 60+? How's it going?

Well I'm 58, working full time and planning to do another 3 years then become a T W A T hopefully.

Yep, I'm likely doing more now than I was 20 years ago.

I'm earning less, but took the decision to see if I can make a difference in this crazy town that we live in, so went part time at work, this month I've reduced my work again to two days, as I've agreed to take on the chair of the overview and scrutiny committee of the TVCA.

I’m 60 and I’m quite lucky to be earning a lot no mortgage and not having to work too hard. I work a couple of days a week at home and travel a bit with the job. I had to really graft to get where I am now 60 hour 7 day weeks for years!! Now I love weekends and weekday evenings I’m reaping the benefits really - did I say I’m lucky?

Working into your 60s can help you feel young(er) plus it proves that companies can’t do without you.

Now here’s an interesting tidbit a company called https://www.verseon.com is developing drugs to reverse the aging process with human organs. It states that it has the technology to add around 30-40 percent to the life of an organ— imagine we could be working until we’re 100+. It might have the answer to Type 2 diabetes.

Live long and prosper and maybe we can live long enough to see the Boro get back into the EPL.

I’m 40 so still got a good few years left.

My mam retired at 58, her nursing registration was expiring and she decided not to renew it as it coincided with my Dad retiring at 62. (71now) He was lucky enough to be offered a decent chunk of voluntary redundancy so took it. He does a bit of volunteer work one day a week and he picks my kids up for me from school one day a week and takes then out for tea. ( I live an hour from him) and that’s about it. They travel a lot and just enjoy themselves, they arent overly wealthy but they are comfortable and happy and that’s all that matters.

Still working full time at 58 came back to uk 2 years ago after 20 years contracting.. still enjoying it .. looking to shift to being a
T W a T in next couple of years which will should see me out

Full time work at 60 plus a 2nd jobbie / side hustle ( which I enjoy ) can't see myself stopping before 67 unless I peg it or main job ends..
even in 'retirement' I'd like (may need) to do something part-time see how it goes, my side hustle could still work & I'm thinking of zero stress ways to make some £ - just need to get my R's into gear & do some of them..

69 here, set up a travel business within a month of retiring, You've got to keep your mind and body active otherwise you'll vegetate...
Lots of ways of keeping your mind and body active without having to go to work that's for Sure. I think some people lack the imagination to do stuff without going to work or maybe are scared to stop their job as it becomes their identity and how they measure their self worth
