Out of Work Managers - Gibson's Cheap MO

Right so if pep left tomorrow or moyes or klopp you honestly think city or West Ham or Liverpool would think well who can we appoint not currently in work???

Really ??
Manchester City and Liverpool could hire pretty much whoever they want.

Manchester City’s last five managers are Guardiola(out of work), Pellegrini(had just left Malaga), Mancini(out of work), Hughes(manager of Blackburn), Eriksson(out of work). Before that, Pearce(promoted from within), Keegan(out of work). That’s over 20-odd years.

Liverpool’s last five managers are Klopp(out of work), Rodgers(manager of Swansea), Dalglish(out of work, or ‘upstairs’ at the club), Hodgson(manager of Fulham), Benitez(out of work, had just resigned from Valencia).

West Ham’s last five managers are Moyes(out of work), Pellegrini(working in China but had left his job a couple of days before going to West Ham), Moyes(out of work), Bilic(out of work after Besiktas), Allardyce(out of work).

Do you want to choose any mote clubs? The patterns are almost the same everywhere. There may be a handful of clubs who are much, much richer than the others - Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, etc - and will pursue managers whatever their circumstances but it’s more than likely a club will appoint someone who is unemployed elsewhere.

Again, I’m not saying any of them do it from a moral standpoint. But I don’t really see it being that much of an issue TBH. Our best periods under this chairman have been with the least experienced managers in charge.

Exactly they have all appointed in situ managers and will again so it proves my point.

We do it out of principle.

To me you’re just frustrated at the team not winning and are looking anywhere and everywhere for potential faults or people to blame. Our best periods under this chairman have come under the least experienced managers. I think that’s a more interesting thing than whether they were working or not when we hired them.

Didn't Gibson allow Robbo to appoint Viv Anderson as his assistant, who was managing Barnsley at that time?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - very much a boro appointment of old.. can't see it happening these days
Scot Parkert - a none starter for me.. the new Garry Monk.
Sean Dyche - a more pragmatic, more premier league version of Wilder.. would suit the club and fans and chairman.. but we couldn't afford him.
Liam Rosenior - wasted at Derby but I don't think Gibson would ever pay compo for a manager currently in situ
Leo Percovich - would be high on the list, but as a fans favourite should be protected at all costs.
Jonathan Woodgate - available and would no doubt relish the chance of a second bite of the cherry.
Stewart Downing - should have been given a route of progression.. but wasn't
GRANT LEADBITTER - oof, just waiting in the wings! with LEE CATTERMOLE! cor blimey

Conclusion:
None of the above. If Wilder gets snapped up by a premier league club, Gibson/Scott will use the compensation to bring in a left field appointment.

Btw we are not surmising this, Gibson is on record as saying this.

I’m not sure what point your making as Gibson has admitted this publicly.
Because my point is that it doesn’t really seem to matter. Clubs have success with managers from all over the shop, the overwhelming majority of whom are out of work at the time of appointment and almost certainly ‘failed’ at at least one other club.

It’s more interesting that Boro appear to be better when managed by a young and hungry manager rather than a bloke with 700 games under his belt.

Does that include Jonathan Woodgate, Gareth Southgate, Steve Agnew and Garry Monk?

It does matter if the best candidate would be willing to come and is a manager of a club who wouldn't stand in his way, i.e. from a lower division or from a smaller league abroad - but we never even talk to them about it.
There was a lot of talk of the Cowley brothers before we appointed Woodgate, but it was never going to happen.
