Our record of buying strikers

Willie Whigham at the top!
:D Watched him from a kid in my first season 68/69 until Jim Platt replaced him

When I was in the 4th year at school 1977, I was helping the kitchen staff move a steel table and there was a banging on the delivery door, when I opened it was Willie Wigham greased back hair was unmistakeable driving a Fawcetts van delivering food supplies.

He had a fag later on and I spoke to him and asked if it was him ? as I had watched him at every home game I went to. He said he was very one and only in his Scottish accent and sighed "now look at me son"

My first full season too
Jaysus - its a long time ago isn’t it?
Lots of memories eh?

Depends if you count the promotion season for Ricard, he was atrocious and Robson playing him so much nearly cost us promotion. Was like playing with ten men.

Even in the premier league one week he was good the next he was utter turd.
He is still our top scorer in the history of the Premier League with 31 goals

Inspired by the Alves thread - there must be aome I’ve missed

The bad

Davenport
Payton
Alves
Gestede
Rhodes
Britt

The good

Big John
Hughie Mac
Bernie
Micky Burns
Viduka
Yak
Jimmy Floyd
Payton got a bad injury & never recovered - he'd be exempt from my list.. Davenport however = #1

That’s fair - scored a blinder on debut didn’t he?
Then broke a leg or something

I remember being as excited as hell when we signed Davenport 😂

Don't forget - no other player has scored more goals for us in the Prem than Ricard.
I know, doesn’t mean he was brilliant though, well sometimes he was, often he was terrible. His inconsistency was ridiculous.

I know but that’s not a great number, his inconsistency was mind blowing. At his best unplayable at his worst he was barely pub league.
