Our one on one finishing

It’s been an issue at this club for years as we all kind of know collectively that one on ones rarely go in for us.

But that sideways pass yesterday was crazy as in this league without VAR that type of pass is going to called off side all day long.

All of Mcgree’s shots required saving, so a step in the right direction there. But who remembers the old Slaven side foot pass into the corner.

Would have worked a treat yesterday

No they didn’t. Usual blaze over attempt too

They clearly did.

O'Leary had to make save after save during the match, some very good ones too.
We had 9 shots on target, McGree was responsible for 4 of them.

When a goalkeeper is man of the match, it's not because shots are being blazed over the bar.

He did blaze one over the bar into North Stand. You missed that it seems.

The effort at the end of the first half when he cut back was a brilliant effort.

Second half produced a good save too in the last moments from edge of the area. Was pleased with McGree yesterday and he played a part in our goal

Some players just have the knack of beating the keeper. We haven’t had such a player probably since Bamford.
That is undoubtedly true, but Akpom deserves real credit for getting to 7 goals. He might actually get past 15 this season; I see no reason why not.

You would have written Bobby Charlton off using that logic. He hit far more into the Stretford and Scoreboard ends than into the net, according to himself anyway.

McGree's an attacking midfielder, not a striker, settling in under his second new manager in the short time he's been here. He needs a chance.

How does his minutes to goals ratio compare to our other midfielders during that time, can't be much different with the exception of Crooks?

Charlton hit 199 in 606 league games, one in 3 in the top flight for his entire career. Of course he din't score with every shot, but he did score 199 goals.
Riley McGree has 4 in his Boro career including two massive deflections.
4 league goals in 1921 minutes. He got 3 in 1692 minutes for Brum.
He is an attacking midfielder who doesn't score goals. 1 every 516 minutes.
He is at the moment a 4-5 goal a season attacking midfielder.
