Our man Lewis Wing

You don't win 4-1 if you are carrying a passenger in proffessional football, ever. Anyone suggesting that anyone in that performance was poor are just plain wrong and either weren't watching or are exercising some kind of unconscious bias.

I'm not sure what the point is in criticising anybody today, I really don't.

Saville and Morsy were everywhere; McNair and Fry dominant; Bola really good; Assombolonga was very very good today.
The keeper did well, Dijksteel battled on clearly under duress, Tav and Johnson worked really hard; but surely even the most miserable sod could not be anything other than happy for Lewis Wing to score twice and look like he had a touch of confidence for the first time in ages.

That was a smashing win by a team who are clearly pulling together.
Hats off to Warnock, but also to a lot of players who have been so often criticised.

Great post that. Warnock got it spot on as the 2 lads he brought in played fantastic. No one can complain. Sav was the star of the show for me today though, he didn’t put a foot wrong.

Wing did well. Corner looked like it was curling in, so I reckon he may get credited for that, I don't think Etheridge will be fighting him for it. He also made a good contribution to the second passing to Johnson. For the fourth he hit hard, accurately and was certainly not easy for the keeper. Credit where it's due.

Good luck to the lad but let’s be honest people. He was anonymous in the first half and the corner goal was a complete fluke and terrible mistake by the keeper. The 4th was a poor effort by the keeper again but hey you don’t win the raffle if you don’t buy a ticket. He didn’t have ‘a great game’ but we won so not particularly bothered. Would worry if he became a regular starter.

Strange, someone who looked just like Wing was involved in the second goal.

I'm sorry but what game were people watching today?

Apart from a corner which a sunday league keeper would have caught, and a powerful shot with the keeper should have done better with, he did absolutely nothing. I honestly didn't notice he was playing. Saville and Morsy were all over the place - pretty much doing his job for him.

People have horribly short memories, he's still awful and nowhere near champ standard - this thread is mental.

Dearie dearie me, sorry but we have some churlish and miserable gets as ”fans”.
He did absolutely nothing....Jesus wept.

It's a funny old game and all that but I didn't think we were great today. Certainly didn't dominate to the extent that the scoreline suggests.

Birmingham pressed high and fast and never let us settle. I don't think we ever had anything remotely resembling control of the game and didn't have a moments respite throughout. In the first half we were well beaten. Apart from the goals.

And the big difference today was that the shots went in.

The keeper might have had a mare but we still got the goals. It wasn't pretty but we won. We didn't dominate and we didn't really grind it out. We tried to play a certain way and struggled to find any rhythm but ultimately it didn't matter. We will play a lot better and lose. We will play a lot worse and win.

What stood out for me was the fact that the team looked as though they'd walk through walls for each other. There is a real bond there and despite the pressure they didn't panic. The players and the management team deserve a huge amount of credit.

As for wing and passing vs kicking into space - I'm with the "not his fault" brigade. De Bruyne would be wasted in most championship teams 'cos players wouldn't anticipate his balls and they wouldn't run into areas where he might find them. It wouldn't suddenly make him a bad player. Ravanelli, Juninho and Emerson had a glorious few months where the only other Boro player who could see what was happening was Higgy. The rest of the team in those early days were lost. It doesn't make them terrible and the wayward passes that players should have run onto didn't make Juninho or Emerson terrible.

It's all about clicking and finding the same wavelength - at any level.

We're getting there. Onwards and upwards.

I never watched the game as I went to watch Stockton Town play.
I was moaning during the last few games saying we don't get much from corners, well
It was their goalie dropping a blog, but I`ll take it, Wings 2nd was a beauty, he has some power in those boots,it nearly flipped the keeper over.

Keep it going and enjoy it Lewis, cracking goal son.
The players all seem to be excelling just now.
