Our first choice front two

I genuinely feel there won’t be a ‘first choice’ I think Wilder likes to have 4 strikers of fairly equal ability who fit into his style of play. He will feel now he can bring any 2 on in the second half of games and it won’t weaken us, if anything it could strengthen us through freshness. Exciting times and I for one have totally bought into Chris Wilder.

Me too

I posted after his very first press conference that I thought he had played a blinder.
I have been ever more impressed by him every week.
I can't remember being remotely as excited about our prospects since May 2016.
Wilder may go on to be my favourite Boro manager. I certainly hope so.

I’m getting that feeling too. Let’s hope that happens.

CW is a creature of habit.

vs. Swansea. Both strikers subbed 73rd minute.
vs. Stoke. One striker subbed 74th minute. One subbed 89th.
vs. Bournmouth. One striker subbed 74th minute. One subbed 90+4.
vs. Forest. One striker subbed 65th minute. One subbed 90+2.
vs. Blackpool. One striker subbed 62nd, and one subbed 73rd.

He's going to stick with Sporar for at least the next few games, and will probably start Connolly on Saturday...
...but between Sporar/Balogun/Connolly it'll be... The two who play the best / score the most, keep starting games.
The third out of those three will be the 73rd/74th minute substitute.

Unfortunately for Watmore, the fact he's starting Hernandez with Sporar shows he's out of favour, so he'll stay as the last minute "run around as much as you can" wild card substitute.
He might even be shipped out with Hernandez taking that spot... which would be a shame.

Has Watmore been dropped for Hernandez on performances? I thought he wasn't fully fit. Still recovering from COVID or something. Have a feeling Wilder has said something like "we didn't think he'd be able last 60 mins yet" after one of the games. But could be wrong.

For me, the 2 places are watmore and sporars to lose. They’ve proven they can work together.
there will be subs though, that’s just the high intensity game we play, so whoever is on the bench will get game time each week.
I don’t know much about the new lads so can’t pick from them yet. I do know we won’t need Hernandez up front anymore though

I hope so because I like Watmore, but it appears more like he's been slowly phased out...

In my opinion CW always has a reason for everything he does, he's verging on OCD with the moves he makes... Like a 73rd/74th min striker substitute in every game.

If he rated Watmore... Why wouldn't 1 striker have been enough this window?
He'd have had Sporar/New Striker, and Watmore would have been his 73rd/74th min sub, then Hernandez (or Coburn) to mix it up in the final minutes / or as emergency cover.

The fact he's made 2 VERY early transfer window moves for strikers shows he "NEEDED" 2 strikers.

But Hernandez isn’t a striker and he doesn’t fancy coburn.
I think Watmore still has plenty of game time for us

I hope he does. I like Watmore.

But if Watmore plays, one of Sporar / Balogun / Connolly has to miss out, because he only plays 3, with the 4th normally coming on in the dying minutes.

I can't see him signing Connolly to play 5 minutes per game.

Because he'll want good cover for every position. He's now got two proper strikers and two grafters/skillful players. It allows like for like off the bench and gives cover for injuries. I don't think Watmore is being phased out, he wasn't 100% for one or two of the games Hernandez played, Wilder said so himself

Lumley
Dijksteel Fry McNair
Jones Crooks Howson Tavernier Taylor
Sporar Balogun

Daniels
Bamba
Peltier
Payero
Watmore
Hernandez
Connelly

* maybe Hernandez for Taylor depending on how adventurous/cautious Wilder is

Personally I would play Sporar and Watmore upfront until proven otherwise. I'm sure there will be plenty of rotation because of the distance the strikers have to cover. Its actually nice to see some movement from our strikers for the first time in a long time.

I know its exciting to have these new players in but both Sporar and Watmore are proven commodities in the system. Once the new players get up to speed they will get their fair share.

Think you are way off if you think he doesn’t rate Watmore at this level. He is managing his knee. He will still get plenty of minutes I feel, be interesting to see what happens with Hernandez.

That’s one way to potentially increase your goals for record abs keep 4 strikers happy at the same time not to mention creating more saleable assets in the process . Let’s face it to compete at the top wel need to sell well to be able to build the best team we can over time .

I’d say Sporar will remain No1.

He’ll be substituted almost every game to keep him fresh and all four will get lots of minutes on the pitch.

We’ll need 4 or 5 strikers to keep the tempo CW likes for the rest of the season. Hernandez or Uche will be involved also.
