Our awful start to the season

Carrick does keep talking about the future so I hope we can tie him down to an extension. Obviously, if one of the bigger clubs come sniffing he may be tempted but there is a lot to be said for working for a club where the hierarchy are all aligned and give you the freedom to develop your skills. He seems to have the ability just to coach who is put in front of him. Ideal quality for England manager in future.

I would be looking to bring in no more than 3 starters (sorry if that spoils your Summer Newy).

The trouble with that being we could well lose Hackney, we can't go into another season with Howson as the main man in CM. So we need two starting CM's immediately. If the the Forest price I'd seen for O'Brien was halved, I still wouldn't sign him. So that could be three CM signings to even stand still. Added to the fact we haven't got a central striker good enough for promotion it seems, along with a couple first teamers long term injured that may or may not be back. I just can't see us only needing / wanting to sign three.

I'd say the main issue with our summer windows is we're often a month into the season, still waiting for the last few players / bits of quality to come in.

It could well happen this year, that all of our summer buisness is structured/decided around whether Hackney is sold for big money or not.

I don't know what we can do about this as the PL teams leave stuff till late in August, and as ever we'll be feeding off either the knock ons of their moves, or the scraps of their unwanted / unregistered waifs and strays.

I suppose we could say a hard deadline of x number of £millions by mid-July or he's staying. But I think we all know stuff like that isn't usually realistic.

I remain skeptical whether PL club's even consider championship managers unless they already have top flight experience or success on a European level.

Nathan Jones is the only one I remember recently and he probably stands as a warning to others looking to follow suit.

I rate MC very highly, and I think he's doing a great job. Yet we're 9th in the championship. I suppose what I'm saying is that the PL's managerial scouting can be very superficial

I'm pretty confident he will. He's certainly not the type to jump at the first job that's a step up available. He'll want the right job at the right time.

Of course that job might appear and it be too good to turn down, but I don't think there'll be many that'll turn his head at this point. Even if he was offered one, which is far from certain.
I think so too. He’s achieved everything in the game so I think that itch is scratched for him. He seems to have a great attitude unlike Wilder for example who was clearly ‘looking up’. Not that I blame him for that, but to some extent Chuba as well. He says Carrick was the manager he dreamed of, and then left.
Can’t begrudge anyone moving up but sometimes staying put and staying loyal and where things work gets you further faster than moving does.
Nobody really know but I know what I would do in Hackney, Carrick, Chuba’s position. For example

Speaking of chuba sub again today.

Wonder how long he puts up with not playing after being our main man.

Strange one. He’s had this kind of treatment wherever he goes. Feel for him!
But he should of stayed put (;

Also to mention Carrick is near his home and young (?) family! He mentioned driving up to Newcastle after Tuesday and a move to West Ham or somewhere else negates that too.

I think he’s smart enough to realise that he needs to build his own skills more and is in a very suitable job for him with a great owner and staff with him. It just feels like ‘the days’ right now that we will look back on very fondly - hopefully with something to show for it!

Aitor Karanka songs were part of the South Bermondsey repertoire yesterday for the general public. The streets remember 🤣

Thought he still lives in Cheshire?

Since our recovery from the poor start we've lost 7 games. We're still well behind the front runners.

we've drawn very few games this season. Either we've lost or won, which has kept us in contention. I wonder how our total number of wins compared to the front runners compares since our bad start?
