Since relegation in 2009 the 'Holy Grail' of away weekends - as opposed to there and back on the day like Sunderland - has been Blackpool on a Saturday in August, September or early October. Reportedly Lancashire Constabulary have had a policy of not letting the EFL allow that - presumably on ground of numbers as we surely don't have a Leeds style reputation.
This season they seem to have performed the most welcome volte face since De Clerk released Mandela. Sure, Blackpool is plastic and can suffer from an excess of testosterone but if you pick your evening drinking venues with a bit of care, it can be fun and acceptably safe. Plus there's usually a show for the Friday if Sky don't shift the game there - in the case of September 9th, 'Memories of The 4 Tops' and me and matey are old enough to remember them from first time round!
