I don’t think meters were designed to cope with daily price changes.

The in home display reads the tariff info from the meter but octopus doesn't push updates daily for tracker or half hourly for agile. The apps are much easier to use than the ihd's anyway though and if you get a mini you get the same live elec use data available

How do you use smart meters? Got a gas one put in. Back in January. Scottish power. No instructions nothing. Not even a letter off them. Do I just leave it or call them. Not my fault I've heard nothing.

Seems to be done confusion. The smart meter is not the same as the display you get. The smart meter replaces your old meter and all it does differently to your old meter is it automatically sends readings to your supplier instead of having to take manual readings.

The in home display isn't needed. You can have it turned off if you want. If you do use it then it will provide your usage. The tariff is never right if you are on the tracker so not worth using but the usage values are useful. I don't personally use mine.

There are advantages to having a smart meter above just not having to take manual readings such as access to some tariffs.
