Not Football Related - Oyster Cards

Trying to take my mind off the permutations of Saturday and thinking of a trip to that there London in a few weeks time. We are going from Kings Cross to a Docklands area hotel so that's the DLR. We'll be dodging about from KC to Docklands to centre on the Saturday, got bits planned in central London for Sunday and then back to KC on the Monday .. Will an oyster card each with £20 on be enough do you think - we tend to walk a lot once we're in the city centre. Thanks in advance

You'd be crazy to mess about with an oyster card. Tap in with your phone or debit card. Save yourself the hassle as there no benefit at all of oyster over debit

I guess using the debit card is the future LOL - last time we went we used the all day tube cards which were about £7.60 - not been for a few years you see :-D Cheers everyone

At the end of each day the system will work out whether it would have been cheaper for you on a day ticket rather than the cost of individual journeys.

Just bear in mind that you'll still need a separate card for each person to tap in and out.
You can't use the same card more than once for each journey.

I still use my oyster card which I've had for years and now top up using the app and you can see exactly how much you've got left etc.
I'm still in the mindset that I don't want to be waving my bank card or phone at random possibly unsecured touch points, but that's just me!

Using Zone 1 and 2 i.e. Central London - its £7.70 capped per day (about 5 tube journeys and you reach the cap)

Assume you do reach your cap thats £15.20 for Saturday and Sunday. Add it a one off Zone 1 journey on Monday and it takes it to £17.70 per card for the 3 days.

If you have an Oyster Card and a Senior Rail card it can get a third off those prices, if you inform TfL.

Public transport is a bargain in London in my opinion.

Just use your debit card.. works out cheaper.

Debit/Credit cards I thought were charged the same price as Oyster Cards for the same journey? They are not cheaper.

However for people with railcards they can get discounted fares if they have an Oyster card making Oyster cards cheaper for these groups. Quite significantly with a third off.

Oyster cards give out information such as money spent on journeys. I also find they give more control over spending. I never put more than £15 on my card, so I know quickly how much I am spending with Oyster. Debit/Credit cards are often a deep pit of spending.

I agree debit/credit cards more convenient, but if you lose your card or have it stolen there is more risk than losing an Oyster card with £15 on it.

I found it cheaper for not being based in London on the reg.
