Norwich's Sainz has red card overturned

I watch The Premier League Years on Sky when there’s nothing on, and you see some of the challenges in the 90’s that went unpunished vs. some the stuff that gets a yellow/red card these days and you realise how much the game has changed.

Not to say that some of the changes haven’t been positive, but I feel it’s gone too far the other way at times.

It’s a physical sport, and it should remain so. To suggest the Red was a “Violent act” is really pushing the boundaries.

If that was a Boro player, we’d have been very angry with the officials.

Like I said on my initial post on Wednesday. We were due a decision going our way after the dross officiating we’ve had at times this season.

Well I'd hazard a guess because he didn't kick him or even attempt to kick him
Well he moves his foot upwards towards Howson on the footage on the sky highlights. But camera angles can be misleading admittedly.
Not really any need for the sarcasm though is there? I'll just keep my head down in the future, lesson learned 🙄

You did question whether people had watched football before when saying it was a definite red @festa5 😄

No offence taken though mate. Game of opinions and all that. On technicalities a case could me made for a red, I just think we see worse offences get a yellow card, and didn’t see much of a kick, more slight contact.

Naive from their player though and I definitely wasn’t complaining at the time. We needed it!

This is why VAR should be in the championship. It's probably not going to make a huge difference to our season and Norwich still have themselves to blame for capitulating but it's still something that completely turned the game on its head and it shouldn't have done.
No it isn't. We would have been beaten. And every game would be shitter. Everyone who calls for VAR in the championship should be tarred and feathered. Luck is part of sport.

I was hoping no-one noticed!

But well played sir 😂👏

I'll hold my hand up and say I thought it was a definite red. Would be interested to know on what grounds it was successful. The footage I saw looked like he deliberately kicked up at Howson.

So did the panel view the footage and think it was unintentional? (Im assuming it was this)

Or are they saying there was no contact (pretty sure there was)?

Or are they saying there wasn't enough force used and that's now a factor? (even though there's been plenty of precedent set suggesting the amount of force doesn't matter if you're kicking out at someone off the ball).

I mean, I agree it was soft as have similar sending offs been, but, unless it was the first one and there's an angle that makes it clear it wasn't intentional, as ever there seems to be no consistency again. Almost as if they're making it up as they go along.

And I've got sympathy for the ref (and not just because it benefitted us 😉) because it looked on several replays like it was intentional and there was no reason for Sainz to have his legs up in that position anyway.
Did the daft lad who bounced the ball off McGree's head from a foot away at Blackburn get his overturned?

So it should be overturned, never a red card, we got away with one, that incident totally changed the game.
Not sure how we "got away with one" it's not something that we did like punching the ball into the net.

I'm surprised it was overturned. Watching live in the stadium I had no idea what was going on until I saw Sainz walking off (I'm in SW corner) but watching the replays seemed to show that Sainz deliberately made contact with Howson by rolling with his legs out stretched. Now, he clearly would not have hurt Howson but his studs made contact with Howson's leg. You may recall young Jezza Aladiere brushing the cheek of the famously upstanding and honest Javier Mascherano, similar levels of damage caused to an opponent. We get an extra game ban (might not have been a bad thing) and Norwich get theirs overturned...

Definitely red card, surprised it has been overturned, he either accidentally kicked out at Jonny or he accidentally didn’t, more clueless inconsistent crxp from the football authorities I’m afraid.

Personally I think the game is way better without VAR. Decisions usually even out over a season.

Was never a red for me but only saw it at the game.

Looked to me like his studs got caught in Johnnys Shorts more than anything
