Norwich's Sainz has red card overturned

No surprise. We got away with one. Changed the game. Although nice to have something go for us.

I'm sure we recently we had 3 reds over turned on the bounce? Although doesn't really help you at the time.

It’s about time that a decision happened wrongly and benefitted us because I can think recently of decisions made incorrectly which should have gone in our favour and didn’t.

Also, I promise to never call referee Bobby Madley names in future.

Oh.
So all of us who questioned it and said it was never a red may have had a point then, and weren’t simply Boro haters hoping that we’d lose expressing anger that we’d won?
Hmm.
Interesting.
Yeah. A few folks saying it was definitely a red. Oops! 😳

This is why VAR should be in the championship. It's probably not going to make a huge difference to our season and Norwich still have themselves to blame for capitulating but it's still something that completely turned the game on its head and it shouldn't have done.
Would VAR have overturned as a clear and obvious error, given the ref was about 5 yards away? I'm not so sure it would have.

I'm assuming that the process involved with overturning the decision is the same as a VAR one. I would say yes because it's not really a subjective decision. He's either acted violently or he hasn't and there was no indication from any of the angles on the replays that he had.

Does this mean Madley will be demoted another league then? Because I'm sure if it was a PL game and on telly, he would be assigned a Championship game this weekend.

Surely the conversation between the VAR and the ref would have made the ref overturn it?

I imagine it might have been downgraded to a yellow to spare the ref's blushes slightly.

VAR overturns things all the time when the referee has got something wrong. They are supposed to act as a team. I don't think admitting that he thought he saw a kick and the VAR team telling him there wasn't one is anything to be ashamed about. Referees make mistakes and they don't always have the best view. It makes perfect sense to use the technology to improve decision making. I think it would be more embarrassing to claim you were right about something when the replays show you weren't. I don't think yellow is an option as it's a yes/no decision.

On the VAR topic; did anyone see the West Brom defender's handball save on the line?

I'll hold my hand up and say I thought it was a definite red. Would be interested to know on what grounds it was successful. The footage I saw looked like he deliberately kicked up at Howson.

So did the panel view the footage and think it was unintentional? (Im assuming it was this)

Or are they saying there was no contact (pretty sure there was)?

Or are they saying there wasn't enough force used and that's now a factor? (even though there's been plenty of precedent set suggesting the amount of force doesn't matter if you're kicking out at someone off the ball).

I mean, I agree it was soft as have similar sending offs been, but, unless it was the first one and there's an angle that makes it clear it wasn't intentional, as ever there seems to be no consistency again. Almost as if they're making it up as they go along.

And I've got sympathy for the ref (and not just because it benefitted us 😉) because it looked on several replays like it was intentional and there was no reason for Sainz to have his legs up in that position anyway.

Can't believe how many people on here were saying it was definitely a red!

I guess a lot of fans can't help but be influenced by their allegiances and see things objectively. Had it been a Boro player, I can't see many saying it was a definite red.
