North East to London commute

Commuted to York, Knaresborough and Gateshead for spells while living in Teesside.
Tried to set my limit to an hour each way......not sure I could ever of coped with anything more.
Funny, once you are in 'work mode; you don't really notice the commute.
When I drive to York on a day trip now it feels like a chew.

I did a Tuesday to Thursday in the office for around 6 months 2 years ago. After coughing up £40/£50 a night for Paddington fleapits tried out the YHA and it worked out brilliant.

Used to use the Tuesday journey down as extra sleeping time.
Theres some ropey places in Paddington , or at least there used to be. Sussex gardens?

I would agree, unless you've got a clear run anything over one hour starts to wear one down. There's only so many podcasts etc one can listen to.

Teesside to Leeds for 3.5 years, you are wasting your life in a car for 3 hours per day.

I did Teesside to Gateshead for years and that was hard after a while especially in the winter. My current London commute is actually much better than anything I did in the North East. Given I'm 100% wfh until April I'll hopefully have a bit of time to sort something out if this doesn't come off.

Worked with a bloke at my place in North London about 5 years ago. He commuted daily from Darlo though he lived near Barnard Castle. Cost 12k per annum.

To do it a couple of days is one thing but Jesus

Back up north?

My wife used to work with someone who commuted from Portugal! He would fly in to city airport work a couple of days in the office and fly back to Portugal for the weekend.

I can just about imagine a daily commute from York but only if your office was in kings cross/Euston area. Daily commute from darlington just seems bonkers.

Teesside to Scarborough for a spell. Shocking roads. Bloody long way. Never made peace with the journey.

The Portugal one I could see happening. No joke, I knew someone who moved his family to NZ. He lived in a bed sit in Acton and was able to work like a dog for @ 6 weeks , thus allowing him @ 1 month in NZ. His kids were older and he actually said it was a great thing. He started prior to the move he had been quite controlling of his wife. The move allowed her her own space to develop... Saved the marriage according to him

Easily doable.

Working 7:30-5:30, Ive commuted to Penrith, Hull and Alnwick from Middlesbrough. Leaving before 6.00am and not getting home till after 7pm, 5 days a week.
Also when living in Perth WA. I used to commute to a mine site one day a week which was a 7.10am flight and returned back into Perth circa 8pm (out the house from 5am to 9pm). It was fine for one day a week.

One 15 hour day a week isn't going to kill you especially when you are WFH the rest of the time and probably shortening your working day by at least an hour by saving your commute.

Knew a woman who’s husband worked for a French bank, lived in Kent travelled on Eurostar from Ashford to Paris 3 days per week after they relocated the function he worked in from London back to Paris.
