Normalising an impending war…

It seems to me like we're sleep walking into world war III. Europe is on the brink and, other than the voices of the smaller eastern European nations, noone seems to be taking it seriously. If Russian conflict escalates, and with all the proxy wars in the middle east, then the consequence of a larger war in Europe could be devastating.

The rest of Europe has been preparing for the eventuality for the last two months. It could, and should have been avoided with earlier intervention and support for Ukraine. It might still be avoided, although Netanyahu is doing his best to engineer one ... on top of the other war crimes, attacking a diplomatic legation building .... something that you just do not do.
The US, on both sides....red and blue... are culpable for much of this debacle.
I am a long way from being an admirer of Erdogan, but when Russian fighter bombers played fast and loose with Turkey, they were dealt with immediately and didn't go back.

It's one thing having "Putin"'s mob behaving like maniacs, with no thought about human life of consequence ... but add another, in the shape of Netanyahu, into the mix, then the Iranians and the Saudis going at it (via proxies) and it's pretty alarming.

But I take issue with the idea that this is being normalised. It is not. It is preparing people for what might happen.
And, while you might not see missiles flying over Teesside, what you might see is cyber attacks on critical infrastructure. This has been going on already for some time, with attacks on GPS Nav systems for air traffic for instance.

But, I would advise against watching rolling news... especially our domestic news services. You'll end up ill informed AND stressed out/anxious. Not a great combination.

I am more worried about the Civil War whats bubbling than a World War

I don’t think we are close to a war with Russia.

A nato country going to war with Russia would be the end to civilization as we know it, both parties know that and know there’s no winner.

Wars create money for those in power, a nuclear war wouldn’t. Sadly there will be many proxy wars happening throughout the next generations until hopefully we take a step up as a species.

The Americans have been building and testing nuclear weapons since before the end of the Second World War.
The proliferation of these planet - ending weapons has increased year-on-year.

Conscription, **** that. ‘This lot’ you talk of are no worse than we were, or any worse than the generation before. Plus, it doesn’t take a 100 plus IQ to point and shoot. I’d lock my kids in rather than have them conscripted
It gives the Ex Forces on here chance to have a dig at others.
Every other story on Sky news aka BFBS is about how the army is underfunded.
The constant Veterans v Homeless v Immigrants arguments.

You’d think they’d have more sense then wouldn’t you, being ex-forces ?

Got to keep “the mob” in business
I have a choice on saturday, go to the Ipswich game or give the money to Veterans, these Range Rovers are expensive to fill up y’know

If it got really serious with Russia I dont think it would be much of a war - its clear they have been spending their defence budget on yachts in the med for decades, have they really been keeping a nuclear arsenal up to date? They couldnt hold back a Ukraine advance until the US stopped supplying the ammo, if a serious European power got involved the whole thing would be over in days, not least because those around Putin would topple him rather than face the utter humiliation of being annihilated and the whole regime brought down.
