Hi Sportsfans, a disappointing afternoon for the team down at the Riverside but a big boost for Notebook followers when former Notebook entry Lewis O'Brien came on for his debut in the second half 👍

I would be switching to a 433 formation to accommodate O'Brien and make us more solid through the middle. We really need to get some points on the board and build some confidence. Good mangers are able to adapt formations to the players they have available.

Why did Isiah Jones start on the left ?
Why wasn't McGree in the starting lineup after his goal and assist in the last game ?

Those very strange decisions and subsequent muddled substitutions really didn't help our cause.....

Onto QPR, and last seasons Notebook choice No 10 Ilias Chair was superb linking defence with attack as we have become accustomed. Ex Chelsea goalkeeper No 1 Amir Begovic was also in great form making several good saves and getting his angles right when Lath got through a couple of times.

Old stagers No.4 Jack Colback (with a goal) and No.5 Steve Cook looked like the sort if experienced campaigners we should have gone for in the close season

Nobby's Notebook choice today though was No.11 Paul Smyth. What a great performance from the pint sized wide player. He caused problems all afternoon and set up Armstrong for a tap in after his strong run and cross down the right in the first half. It looked easier to score but the striker couldn't get a touch. In the second half more Smyth industry allowed the Northern Irish international to break free down the right and, when Chair’s initial effort from the latter’s pullback was blocked, Colback stole in to lash the ball beyond Dieng.
Got through plenty of defensive work and stood out for me guys. He's in the Notebook.

Paul Smyth Age 25, 3 caps for Northern Ireland. Smyth broke into the Linfield first team as an 18-year-old in 2015 and then was transferred to QPR in 2017 on a 2 year contract. Spent time on loan at Wycombe, Charton and Accrington, he was released at the end of his contract and joined Leyton Orient.
Rejoined QPR at the start of this season in a 3 year deal.
Thanks 👍

Yes number 4 Colback in midfield looked ok and capped his performance with a goal

Asmir Begovic did well.. how many saves did he pull off? He’s not a young gun.. but the neither is Kasper Schmeichel.. who is current a free agent.

Not saying there’s anything wrong with Seny.. but he has conceded 11 in 5

I thought Smyth and Chair ran the show for most of the game - good players , either of them would be excellent aquistions for us.

Completely agree, Chair was wanted by Leeds Leicester and Ipswich but deals couldn't be agreed. He has a £6M asking price so out of our reach unfortunately 😕
