Nigel Pearson

The lack of balance and creativity IS the reason we have been rubbish zero supply zero goals zero shots on target.
With Spence and v coulson we had drive and an attacking outlet from the kick off.

Bar the one he scored early on, has he been involved in a single goal in his 11 games?
Beyond goals we'd conceded, that is.

He didn't get dropped out of nowhere, he'd been poor for a while before the hook.
That he's not been reintroduced seems to be down to a break down of relations with the coaching staff, mind.

I wasn't really that enamored with the idea of Pearson to be honest at the time. I wasn't being snobby or turning my nose up at him or anything like that. He was more preferable than Monk but I won't rewrite history and pretend he was a missed opportunity at the time. In the context of where we were he just didn't excite me.

That said Woodgate excited nobody. I would say there wasn't a single boro fan who would have chosen Woodgate over him.

People are overselling the impact Spence had, he had 2 or 3 good games and was average at best for the rest.
He should have been starting recently, in my eyes, but his absence is not the reason we've been rubbish.

He offered a real threat. For the first time since Traore we had a player that the opposition had to worry out. Mourinho picked him out as an impact player. Him and Coulson gave us balance, pace and a genuine threat. They BOTH have to play.

My only issue with pearson was the reputation that he is shall we say for legal terms a bit too intense, there’s no doubting his managerial ability and I’d have taken him but he does have that tag that some clubs may be wary of.

For such a threat, he was involved in a single goal, and cost us more than that.

Okay, let's disagree. You don't rate the bloke. Thankfully most do.

I do rate him.
But I don't think he's as vital as people are making out.

We're losing and failing to score because of bad management and tactics, not because Spence isn't playing.

Yeah, I remember the old board; lots of posters turning their noses up at him. Would have had him in a heart beat but probably a bit too headstrong for Gibson. He likes his managers young, inexperienced (Pulis the exception) and malleable.

I don’t think malleable is a word I’d particularly associate with Strachan, or Karanka, or Robson or McClaren for that matter. Was Mowbray malleable? Monk?

Yes, he’s given a number of managers their first job but Smac, Robbo and Aitor worked out pretty well. It’s not just a Gibbo trait anyway, it’s a bit of a Boro one. Jack Charlton, Willie Maddren, Bobby Murdoch, Stan Anderson, pretty sure they were all first time managers. On balance the inexperienced managers have probably worked out better than the experienced ones.

Maybe that's not the right word in the main then but I certainly think that's why he appointed Agnew and Monk... yes, Monk. I also firmly believe its the case with Woodgate.

I don’t think malleable is The word the issue is that these type of managers are less likely to be demanding to ask for money to spend etc so they have this happy to have the job feel. They are less likely to rock the boat.

Yep, the word is that we spoke to Jokanovic but after scouring the football globe, Gibson decided that the answer was at the other end of a power point demonstration. 'I give you Mr Gibson, a free scoring, high pressing game with contributions from my main targets Bola and Dijksteel, and the bullets to be supplied by Marcus Browne who was a star at Oxford'. Jobs a good un!

You forgot Mejias to keep the clean sheets

I wanted him.

Most of our fans were too snobby and didn’t want him.
Snobby wasn’t anything to do with it. I saw Pearson as a bully, a loose canon if you will. A part of me wanted him to grab a few players on the training ground, and another part of me would wince when I think of him trying to intimidate journalists.
Slavisa Jokanovic was my first choice, I’d have done everything to get him.
