NFL Draft tonight

One of my favourite nights of the year and normally one of the most important as a Browns fan. Not as important this year as the Browns are finally pretty good.

Always full of intrigue but could be even more interesting with the rumour that Rogers wants out at the Packers.

A long and interesting night awaits.

I think the Brown's might look at an edge rusher although a lot of reporters are tipping us to strengthen at corner.
I'd be very surprised if Lawrence isn't #1 pick overall though.

I’m a saints fan and wasn’t holding out much hope... but the news tonight is they are trying to trade up into the top 10 looking for a long term replacement for Brees

Rumours that it might not be for a QB but another position , possibly CB

I'm channel hopping from the Washington Capitals v Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game and the draft. As a Chiefs fan I've not really got any investment, although I'm curious to see what my local team the Bears do with their 20th pick.

Wow didnt see that coming for the Saints... He is a big lad and seems mobile so maybe he is a work in progress.

Round 2 tonight from midnight...

I've never watched the draft before.

In my head i've always pictured all the picks sitting on wooden benches at the back of a sports hall and them getting selected one by one. I don't want to watch it incase that isn't the process.

I always found the draft system slightly confusing. What happens if a team you don't like picks you? Do you literally have no choice but to agree to play for them?

How are salaries negotiated in terms of the draft? I presume wage negotiations must all take place before the picks are announced?

On a few occasions players have refused to play for the team that drafts them, but it’s very rare. The teams spend months deciding who to pick with numerous interviews etc so it’s unusual to see anyone say they don’t want to play for anyone who picks them.

There is a pay scale for rookie contracts (first round players get a 4 year deal with the teams having an option for a 5th year on first rounders) and they are capped to a level depending on where they were drafted.

The number one picks contract is about $36 million over the 4 years but a lot of that is a signing bonus.

Some players do attend the draft with their family & sit in the 'green room' waiting to be called.

So it goes from this when you've not gone to the 49ers at 3 as everyone expected, & then the Bears trade up & take the other QB at 11...

To this when the Patriots pick you at 15
