... should be interesting given the current state of transatlantic affairs.

I wonder if there'll be European fans boycoutt.

Be funny if they took all games from USA and rescheduled them in Canada and Mexico. Won’t happen but should.

Nothing will happen, it’ll go ahead like normal like always.
Nobody did anything about the winter World Cup in Qatar so why would you expect anything this time?

Madness.

9am world cup games.

A long read, with the typical click baity headline you've come to expect from Roan.
This is quite possibly a very daft question but how did they manage to stage two World Cups in Mexico without extending half time intervals, drinks breaks, weather breaks, etc?

Did they kick off at cooler times of the day/evening or was it just a case of yes, it’s hot, it’s Mexico. Crack on with the football.

The players and coaches complained, but were totally ignored in 86...
"Argentina's star striker Diego Maradona complained about the noon heat of Mexico City where his team plays all its first-round games.

'It should be part of the rules once and for all that the organizers should take the soccer players into account,' Maradona said. 'Without us, there would be no spectacular. We are the indispensable ingredient to the World Cup. At least the hours of the games should be set to the time in which we play best, not when there is the most heat".'

I had thought I might attend this one

My interest in visiting north America is limited, but I though combining it with a WC would be a good trip.

I'm not going there with people of that ilk in charge

Exactly this. I was at 86 and it was unbearable at times but just get on with it. That doesnt make it right that it should be there

I was in Japan in 2002 and the heat there was fierce especially Osaka v Nigeria and Shizuoka v Brazil. Both games played in the afternoon sun. The former game played at walking pace and a shyte 0-0.

I certainly remember there being comment about the conditions at both the Mexican World Cups. And I suspect that talk of drinks breaks and longer half-times are as much about "commercial opportunities" as they are about player safety.

Possibly. Also these days players are asked to run further than the 1970-80s so there could be that issue but its madness to play there in the first place.
