Next year's Championship

I can't help thinking for a lot of teams in this year's Championship it really is an important year to try and guarantee you go up (stating the obvious I know). When you look at the bottom 6 in the Premier League, there are some big clubs likely to drop down - I think next year's Championship is going to be really tough if 3 of the current 6 drop down. I guess you can argue there are some basket cases in that group, but I suspect one way or another, armed with parachute payments and pulling power, it is going to be tough for teams who don't go up this year.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if 3 established clubs come down together.

The assumption is that they can bludgeon their way back up without too much problem; Newcastle in fairness have been very good at this during their last 2 visits.
It took Villa 3 tries though, and West Ham a couple in the early 00s. It's not guaranteed any would bounce back, and if there's 3 of them going for the same spots, well chances are one of them won't make it.

And there's always the chance one of them does a Sunderland double dip.

Look at Watford this season. They’res no guarantee.

Stoke a few seasons ago. They’re coming down for a reason, some clubs will struggle even despite their status. The more established clubs will have overpaid rejects or too big an overhaul

Leeds and Saints dropping wouldn't scare me tbh.

Bournemouth probably would because they already have a good solid Championship squad and would likely keep the likes of Solanke/Tav etc.

But hopefully it's something we don't need to worry about.

I think its entirely feasible that out of any 3 of those that go down, 1 of them could implode and drop another division pretty quickly.

Southampton would be my bet

Being a yo-yo club is definitely an advantage if you do come down as you are more likely to have lower PL/top Championship quality players to call on.
If Everton came down you'd think, given their finances, that they'd see a mass exodus of players and face a consequent acclimatisation process for the new squad.
Even the yo-yo clubs need to make sure they pick the right gaffer though and that just adds to the turmoil.
To my mind, if you get your squad and coaching team performing in the Championship then finances and past reputation of other clubs become less of an issue.

Norwich and Watford have usually bounced straight back. For what ever reason theyve found the Championship more of a challenge this season

Burnley will have been expecting more competition for the title thats for sure

I think we saw a few seasons during and straight after COVID when the impact of parachute payments were exaggerated.

Looks like we'll be back to 1 relegated team winning promotion at the first ask this year, which is pretty much what it was during the 2010s
