Newcastle United, ZERO signings...

It'll be the same as usual for them:

Knocked out of the League Cup early on
Stuttering form leaving them hovering in the bottom six with the fans filling in the radio phone-ins about "big club this" "deserve success that"
Knocked out of the FA Cup by end of January
Training ground bust up because Joelinton puts out one of the windows and knocks a load of asbestos out of the cafeteria ceiling
Suddenly put together a run that moves them into the top 10 and takes the heat off

I think they showed last season that when they have their best 11 on the pitch they’re a match for any team. For me they lack depth but apparently their youth academy is productive with several players coming through— longstaff brothers etc. Attack wise they have top players in particular Saint Martin is a game changer — surprised that he’s still there!

I must admit with the Newcastle fans that Mike Ashley is one tight guy - how much TV money does Newcastle get each season £100m? OK some for wages but there must be a net £40m to £50m for transfers.

Newcastle's problem this season will be their own supporters. Bruce has avoided the worst of the abuse so far because of the empty stadiums. I am on Tyneside a lot through work and Bruce is HATED by their supporters. When you put it to them that he hasn't really done any worse than Rafa they won't have it. It seems bizarre that they worship a Spaniard but yet despise the bloke from Wallsend! But they are a strange bunch!

I'm sure they have every intention of getting on Bruce's case right from the off. They are shooting themselves in the foot really as it is bound to affect performances and player morale and there's no way Ashley will sack him. They may as well get behind him.

Apparently their annual wage bill is £65million, so should be a decent amount of spare cash each season,

Bbc gossip had them linked to Aaron Ramsey today… Ashley probably wouldn’t even do it if he came on a quarter of his current wage.

Would argue better that Rafa, Bruce has not relegated them yet…

And if my memory is correct didn’t Rafa arrange for the JoLinton transfer
No he said he didn’t want him at all, said he wasn’t good enough, the board bought him anyway. Should of listened to him.

In business terms Ashley is doing them a huge favour by providing a financially stable club for any takeover. However, tens of thousands of fans will never cheer and sing a quarterly balance sheet statement.

Treading water seems to be their only goal at the moment and it must be frustrating as a fan. There are some Championship games which I have trudged away from where I would take that slot, being there to make up the numbers and welcoming star players from other teams... but it sucks the joy from going to the match.

I do find it interesting how Benitez and Bruce enjoy such differing levels of respect when the end product is virtually the same. Both play overly cautious against teams around them and both play for a 1-0 defeat against the strongest teams.

They pulled a blinder signing Calum Wilson. I couldn't believe better clubs didn't sign him for the price. He was playing for England and decent age.

Just one poor season in a pish Bournemouth side.

So they have one thing most 10 down don't. A goal scorer (if he stays fit). I genuinely believe 3 worse sides.

Newcastle will be safe again. Bruce knows what to do and they are strong enough to survive again, I think. The promoted teams will no doubt be the favourites for the drop and I think Brightons luck might run out next season. They have done well to last as long as they have.

They may regard us the same with respect to Pulis and Warnock?
I get what you are saying, but it's pretty hard to argue that the football under Pulis was terrible. Warnock, meh, I don't mind his 'basic' tactical setup with the players we had last season, my concern is that he isn't able to adjust it if Gibson gets him better quality players.
