basically, and if you don't like the fiction, move along to another piece of fiction that meets your values and entertains you, it's not compulsory to watch it, but it does seem compulsory to complain about it even before you watch it for some people.

Well there is the problem .. having so little source material to go on .. it potentially just becomes fan fiction with it having very little to do with Tolkien or his writing

but why should that be a bad thing? If it builds on a world that Tolkien created, and stays true to it, then I see no harm.

They can use material from before the Hobbit (chronologically speaking) and apparently they do. As pointed out earlier, they can use "anything that got mentioned in the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy." Which includes plenty of stuff that pre-dates the Hobbit.

I just hope it’s not “too big” as one of the issues many had with GOT is how long it took to introduce and create a the story arc for all the factions and then for them all to meet as they were scattered far and wide.

I'll be watching it, the LotR trilogy is one of the best film series of all time in my opinion, and I hope for the best with this too but they badly ****ed up the Hobbit films and I'm nervous they'll do the same here.

There are definitely parts of it that are already making me worried, mainly some of the cartoonish looking characters and cinematography, and that was a big problem in the Hobbit films for me too.
