New Kitchen

My Mother has just moved house and the kitchen is a bit of a mess so she wants a new one.

Can anyone recommend a good kitchen fitter, she would prefer someone who can strip the old kitchen out and supply and fit a new one. Someone who can do the whole job with no messing about.

@Boro in Devon do you have any contacts up here to help a fellow forum member out?
Thanks Randy,

I am afraid I dont have any contacts where you are.

One thing to bear in mind is that you dont have to strip the whole kitchen out. If the cabinets are sound you can just refit new doors and worktops. It saves a lot of time and expense. However if you want a redesign then you are best going for a full refit.

You can always go to Howdens, who often display cards of local fitters.

Fitters, if they are good are often booked up for months. If someone can squeeze you in then be aware. Make throrough checks about the quality of their work.

Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the advice, we have tried a couple up to now and the earliest they could do anything would be April, they seem to be in big demand at the moment.

To be honest it has been like that since lockdown really kicked in. People have commented on here but the combination of not being able to get materials or tradesmen has meant planning at least 6 months ahead for most people and that is for kitchens and bathroom type work.

If that turns out to be the case, and i think it probably will be. I think i will just do a bit of a refurb job on it for now and look at it again at a later date. I will try a few more places first though before i give up. I will try Ian Rodgers first.

Depends on what she wants I’d say,
bespoke and you need a joiner, a b&q kitchen and you really can do it yourself .
just remember the old saying .. measure multiple times , go to cut…measure again…then go for it

It's often recommended on MSE to get the kitchen you want designed, at howdens, wren etc then price it up on diykitchens and use that quote to negotiate, and play the designers off on each other. There is a lot of fat in tbe original quotes you get.

You can post your quote from howdens on MSE and people will tell you if it is good value or not. A lot of smoke and mirrors as each fitter has different discount levels with them, but I've seen people knock thousands off their quotes with this method compared to original quote

example- this guy saved over £3000

I think that might be the way to go, looks a good sight diykitchens.

My mother has already arranged to get a quotation from Wren, so we will see what they come up with and then get a quote from diykitchens. I think the hardest part will be getting an installer.

She will also wait to see what Ian Rodgers comes up with before she makes a decision.

At least we have a few options to work on now.

Many thanks.

A bit of inside information.
Wren price their interest free credit into the purchase price, so will always be quite expensive, but then looks cheaper to pay back over time.
Check the width of the wood that the cabinet is made from 18mm is good 15mm is flimsy.
There will be sales in the new year, Wickes are usually pretty good.

If you have to pay for a fitter, budget on £250 a day, and then you may need gas/electrician/plumbers/tilers

Thanks for the info, i know Wren have a 20% discount starting boxing day, they are coming to do a measure up tomorrow.
