Netflix and American Football

I know most of the NFL fans have probably already watched Quarterback on Netflix, but for anyone wanting to widen the net to College Football (featuring people who ended up in the NFL) then I can recommend both Untold: Swamp Kings (about the Florida Gators) and Untold: Johnny Football (about Texas A&M quarterback....and Cleveland Browns "quarterback" Johnny Manziel).

For a more sinister spin on American football, try Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist and Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez, both jaw-dropping documentaries.

If you want a more "feel good" series, then give Last Chance U a try.

Lastly, while I'm blathering on about US egg-chasing, the College Football season starts tomorrow so if you love NFL but have never got involved in the College game, pick a team and strap in for some exciting and entertaining games (and good luck trying to apply any logic to the rankings or to the Championship game!)

Times are US Central time, so add 6 hours for UK

I've seen the Manziel one & will pick up the others.

I remember Te'o & his girlfriend, does it say how much it cost him? I reckon he would've been a 1st round pick easy & ended up dropping into the 2nd because of the confusion.

I posted about the Johnny football one the other week.

As for college I saw the BYU game a few years ago v boise on the blue field. ( on tv)

Watching Quarterback. Pretty good.

Jonny Manziel......what a waste. But as he admitted, just wasn't mature enough or had the work ethic for the pros. Being in Cleveland didn't help, obviously depressed and looked to partying as a release. Sad really.

Aaron Hernandez was just really, really "WTAF" all of the way through. By day, a top level NFL TE, part of the biggest and most successful NFL franchise at the time. By night, couldn't leave his old gangster/hood life and was ultimately tried and convicted for murder......with a couple more pretty much pinned on him but couldn't be proved. 😳😳

Haven't seen the Te'o one

College football......don't get much of it over here. Couple of games on Sky and that's about it. High scoring offense dominated.
How do you pick a team? Easy to go for Alabama or one of the SEC teams but that would be like picking Man City. Closest football college to Washington (Redskins)? Virginia Tech "only" 4 hours away 😁

Ogletree went 8 picks earlier with the 30th pick & earnt $2m more on his rookie contract.
So not too bad.

College Football has gone from TNT Sports since Discovery's takeover. Can't get ESPN+ over here for it and Sky only have a select few teams that they show. So it's pretty much unavailable in the UK this season unless you use other methods of watching.

Through friends & their former alma mater I've got an interest in Tennessee Volunteers (University of Tennessee) & Michigan Wolverines (University of Michigan) but never see their games consistently enough to build up a personal following.

I'm interested to see how Deion Sanders does at Colorado but I expect their games to be on through the night.

Would be good if there was a regular highlights show on UK tv.

QB1: Beyond The Lights is also a good insight into how they go from high school to college.

The first three series were on Netflix but series 4 was on a different service and featured the recent No1 pick Bryce Young.

Series 1 featured major prospect Tate Martel but since following his career he seems to have lost his way. Justin Fields was in series 2 and seems to have had a decent career so far. Big year coming up for him.

I've been here 7 years now and still don't have a team!

Funnily enough I used to live in DC and looked at Virginia Tech as my team as I lived in Northern Virginia (and the atmosphere at their games looks unreal) but, like you say, its a bloody long way away! The nearest decent(ish) team to the Redskins is actually the Maryland Terrapins and I went to see them a couple of times. If I'd stayed in DC then they would probably have become my team, but I moved to Chicago in 2019 (then Covid hit). My nearest team now is Northwestern but they were truly awful last season so I've not been drawn into them (and their stadium is "dry"). Living in the midwest I know people who support some of the stronger college teams (Ohio State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Iowa) but there is something about Michigan that I like, so maybe I commit to them this year as we are thinking about doing a road trip with work colleagues to the Big House (although a neighbor has promised to take me to a game at Iowa too).

Well that Notre Dame game was the most one sided contest I've seen in a long time. I hope the Navy lads put up more of a fight when at work 😳
