Neil Young 75 Today.....

Seen him many times over the years. Never disappointed. The last indoor show at Glasgow with the POTR was up there best shows I have seen him play. Went to Hyde park last year and although he and Dylan were great venue was too big for shows.

I used to have the complete works of NY (vinyl), but, faced with bankruptcy, I quit when he started releasing every piece of tape in his vast archive he could find.

Two autobiographies, one for music career, one just for cars and dogs!

Unique and master songwriter, Happy Birthday Godfather of Grunge

Agree totally - some Utterly wonderful songs.
Saw him in Leeds a year or two ago supported by Laura Marling.
I was in tears after the first 4 songs when he bounced out some of his slow classics.

I recall Kingy has worked with NY in the past

One of the greatest of all time. Seeing him and Springsteen in the same weekend at Glastonbury was something special.

Plenty to chose from but this is up there with his best tracks

That was the tour I mentioned above 1finny that I said was up there with his best ever shows. After going to see him in Newcastle during the Psychedelic Pill time I said I would not go to see him again in a big arena. Must stress it was because of the Arena not the show. But when he did that tour with POTR the setlists were fantastic so I relented. The Leeds show was the day I was going on holiday so went to SCC Hydro in Glasgow when it was fairly newly opened. What a show and for a big arena the sound in the Hydro is fantastic. Facilities apart from drinks pricing is amazing. Enjoyed it so much went back to see Nick Cave at the same venue.

Keep on rockin Neil
Absolute Giant Seen him all over th UK. Never disappointed

Got to admit though the arena at Newcastle is the worst place to see any band. A soulless cavern that sucks the life out of any music.
New 12k seater arena being built next to the Sage in sunny Gateshead

Hopefully it will be built as a purpose built music venue like the one in Leeds, which for an arena actually feels like a reasonably intimate gig especially when you have standing tickets. Newcastle Arena by far the worst venue I've seen a gig at.

Kingy sent me some CDS of Neil Young a couple of years ago.....

When I saw him perform Greendale I thought 'this audience is gonna get restless soon, shouting out for old songs etc'. But he pulled it off as only he could, with a captivating set.

Best moment at a NY gig: His rendition of 'Day in the Life' in Hyde Park, when McCartney walked out onstage in time for 'Woke up... etc'.
(didn't like the venue though).

Went to see him at a gig in the horrendous Newcy Arena . Never seen him before so really pumped up and ready ... paid good money for seats near the stage at the side, looking down parallel to the stage front.. Got there and were stuck behind huge old fashioned TV sets which doubled for screens.... Could see about 2 yards from the stage front, No chance of seeing drums or guitarists.... Anyway Los Lobos were the support act and I guessed right only see about 20% of the stage from the front back because of those screens... NY came on and for the first 20 mins he stood behind the monitors and not within my sight.... angry, petulant I left..... later contacted his management in UK , sent a detailed email and ticket stub, pointing out the issue, Got a full refund but still regret walking out ....

"Heart of Gold" is beautiful.
A couple of years before he released that, he scored the winner for Man city in the cup final against Leicester

That was the one I went to that I swore I would never go to an arena again. Went to toilet and bar taking note of where I hade left the good lady. When I went to go back in they said it was a one way system and I had to go around. Took me 25 minutes to get back to wife. Hydro in Glasgow totally different. Toilet and Beers back in 5 minutes. Sound is superb there. I have heard good things about Leeds Arena as well but not been.
