Well, That was interesting.... watched it twice.... I get he has to stay positive and the next match is the most important ( as they all will be for the next 5) says -
"working really hard" " confidence needs building" "from a fans situation its dire" "wanting to do it that little bit more" "need regroup" "they are working hard" "no time for training only travelling" "cant fault the work ethic" "trying to get the confidence" "cant fault the effort ( x 2 )" "they are working really really hard"
"if I'm honest" x 4.....".no good lying to you".....Has the opposite effect. Instead of effectively conveying a perspective, using that phrase tends to leave the listener with the perception that perhaps the person shouldn’t be taken at their word or that they don’t express their honest opinions in other situations. Basically when people use this it infers what he is talking about (jed Spence for example) is 100% TRUE... it makes you think all the other statements are NOT
He is total opposite than woody who would speak like a fan and say "today was not acceptable", We were poor" He was smiling, calm and handled the press questions in a low key, fluent manner.... I am sure 70% of the interview was bullsite but he knows he cannot change the hand he has been dealt and got to stay positive and not demotivate the shiite he has to work with.
He is attempting to instill a feeling of positivity both to fans and players which is the correct strategy. Privatly he must be seething seeing a performance as poor as that , players not frightened of losing and even worse not having the bottle for a fight. Hard to remember when I felt so low......
Would be interesting to hear his as a pundit talking about THAT performance.....
