Nazanin Zaghari

That will guarantee another five years.

He didn’t exactly help the situation last time he got involved. I’m fact I don’t remember him being particularly helpful to anyone or anything other than further enriching his pals.

Back to the OP though, I hope she gets released ASAP and her nightmare is brought to an end, it’s been a travesty from the start.

Johnson in fact managed to get her sentence doubled by saying she was ‘teaching journalism’ which the Iranian regime interpreted as an admission of ‘spreading anti-government propaganda’ and then when asked to clarify or renege the statements delayed to do so until she had already been sentenced with no room to appeal.

Let’s just think about that for a second, the then Home Secretary when asked to help reduce a sentence for a British citizen held abroad makes something up on a whim with no factual basis and leads to not a reduction but an increase in their sentence. His incompetence knows no bounds.

In other walks of life such behaviour would lead to demotion or dismissal but in British politics it leads to promotion and an extension of influence. It’s a funny old world.

She may, of course, be a spy?

If that was the case and she was working for the UK or US you have a then Home Secretary going against what he was advised to say and adding something that was never discussed to a speech which meant further charges were added and her time in prison was extended. Which would raise the question of who was she working for or more intriguingly how would Johnson know ?

It is certainly strange behaviour.
One thought was - because they knew she was a spy they were ok with their whimsical behaviour.
The only other thought i could come up with was that they really are inept and couldn’t give a damn about a young woman living a life of hell in a tough regime.
Tough call

I always thought the spying allegations were bogus, are you guys saying you believe she was a spy?

Her court case postponed today - nobody knows what’s going on, still know one is aware of what the latest charges are.

She's being kept hostage to extract cash from the UK government, it's as simple as that. Without payment she's unlikely to be released :(
Is there any truth in the whole spy thing though or is she simply some random person in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Probably the latter. Although she might have had MI6 asking her to look for info to pass back.
We do owe them £400m.
Yep. the Iranians will be wanting that in hard cash. The USA had to fly a plane full of dollar notes over to get people released previously.

I’m not sure if anyone knows for certain but the governments actions would indicate that if she was a spy they’ve not protected her as an asset or if she wasn’t a spy they’ve not worked in her best interests to secure her release, the other alternative is she was working for a third party but given that the West and Britain would want regime change in Iran that seems counter intuitive.
