Nathan Wood

I thought he did really well for someone just starting out in the Championship. It was refreshing to see a club giving a young lad a run of games and accepting that yes he will make mistakes but in the longer term has the potential, will grow and get better. It's a shame we seem hell bent on shipping all of our academy players out and paying for players to come in with similar ability. Let's face it, the only academy players who have established themselves (or partially established themselves) of late are those we've been forced to play because we had nobody else - Fry, Tav, Coburn, Spence, Jones, Pears. Why are we signing Forss and Hoppe as development players when we have Coburn and Kavanagh???

Different stages in their careers.

On the subject of young Wood, I thought he did alright, I don't recall any major bloopers. A little disappointed that we've moved him on but I guess he knew he was going to be well down the pecking order at CB so can't blame him.

I thought he was quite quick once he’s up to speed but doesn’t accelerate well and hasn’t got the mental skills or the experience to make up for it yet. He just needs to grow into his body a bit more and learn to read the play better but I still see potential in him.

We obviously know what he can and can’t do and that’s why we targeted him.

Swansea is a good move for him. Plenty of game time at a good level under a manager who likes to play on the deck. He would never get games at Boro and unlikely to have got a championship loan move either. Only issue for him is if they really struggle and he makes mistakes. Good luck to the lad.

You do realise those two lads are internationals....there's your annswer thye are a couple of years ahead of Coburn and Kavanagh. You need a conveyor belt of players
I do know that. I just don't understand buying them when we need first teamers. Save the money, get a couple of first teamers in, we then have Watmore and Akpom as reserves, and Coburn and Kavanagh as your development projects.

Meanwhile we have no first teamer, 1 loan player (who has fewer career appearances than Forss, 2 back up, 2 development and 2 youth strikers....

We had 3 players on loan at CF last year and were one light on top of that. We needed 2 first choice strikers AND two backups, we shouldn't need to rely on 19 year olds that aren't quite ready yet. We will get a striker in before the deadline

We have two backups: Akpom and Watmore. If we sign two first choice strikers we then have the 2 back ups (Watmore + Akpom) + Coburn + Kavanagh + Crooks/McGree who can do job we have more than enough options.

It’s early days but also not quite sure why we bought forss and hoppe. Doesn’t look like they will get much game if we get another striker through the door, especially the main one we have been after all summer. They would likely then be 5th and 6th choice. They are unlikely to go out on loan, so would have to develop just from training and low quality U23 games. I’m sure there is a plan but not sure what it is? Otherwise £5M not very well spent.

I reckon, assuming we get larson, then him and Muniz are first choice starters, hoppe and forss were first rotation. Akpoms resurrection has been a bonus but given his history it's still debatable how long that will last. Watmore has been a good servant and done a job but he isn't an out and out striker and it shows with his finishing. I think he'll likely be off or won't get much game time once squad is settled.

I'm not sure which game some people were watching but I thought he was awful and that we played on him and his many weaknesses all the time.

Also, he refused to sign a contract without a guarantee of certain playing time but also went off the rails with Connolly and was out causing problems and partying all the time and showed a less than professional attitude through the time he was here and also after he had gone and was challenged in respect of his behaviour.

He did alright. I mean I wouldn't look at him and say 'he's amazing' and I wouldn't say he's 'cr*p'.

He's a 20 year old starting for Swansea in the 2nd Tier. So he's doing something right. He's still a young lad in what's a very demanding and physical position. He will naturally bulk up and get stronger over a season by playing games and coming up against a whole variety of champo CFs.

I doubt he would have got a kick for us. So it's suited everyone. I imagine we have some kind of sell on clause. So we will want him to do well👍

We need Crooks and McGree in their proper positions. Watmore will be gone. Akpom will be one of 3 backup strikers. You need 5 in the squad in case of injury.

1st choice + Muniz
reserves will be Forss and Akpom
Hoppe is wiht the U21s and expected to push Forss and Akpom for a bench spot.

Akpoms form has basically allowed Watmore to be sold if we sign that first choice CF

I've stated before that anyone under 21 who is a regular in any of the bottom 3 leagues has talent. He's suffered from being introduced at Boro at such a young age, and he's not quite fulfilled that yet, but this is a huge opportunity for him to start to get the experience and game time to move forwards with his career. I'm sure he will make a name for himself at this level over the next couple of years. Hope we had a sell on clause
