Nathan Wood

I don’t think anybody is saying let him go.

Ideally we sign him to a long term contract then assess him in pre season.

These are the decisions the club have to make, is he ready to start on a regular basis or not. If they decide not it would prob be better he went out on loan rather than be on the bench with little chance of getting on.

it’s pointless naming other players the same age who played - they may have been better players or more physically developed at that age. It’s like saying Wayne Rooney played in the Premier League at 16 so every 16 year old should play in the Championship.

It’s true if you’re good enough you’re old enough but you have to be good enough

It’s not just we must be promoted - we also must not be relegated or even be fighting relegation. As has been seen you can soon start struggling in this league.

We have had problems with injuries to our CB's all season. We need more cover on the bench at the very least. Wood on the bench makes absolute sense to me and I would bet a lot of money that he would end the season as a first choice centre back.
As another poster said earlier, he is better than Gibson or Fry at the same age.

Its part of this modern football bollox that a centre back can't play before he's a certain age.
If he is good enough, he is old enough.

Totally agree but weve seen as fans, the reaction to Fry up until this season. I think youre spot on and would make the position his own by the end of the season. He will make mistakes though and would have to be patient.

I agree in the most but players these days are much more physically tuned and stronger than even 15, 20 years ago when the players you quote were coming through. At 19 you are not developed and can be bullied out of games by stronger players/adults...

Surprised nobody has mentioned Leeds U-23 team performance this season. They won the league at a canter with a team packed with £1m+ signings. That’s a fortune at such a young age.
I’d imagine they'd hope to pick up Wood for £1-2m.

Not many teams can afford such expensive kids. Hope it goes horribly wrong for the dirty scum

Tony Mowbray had made over 110 league appearances in this league for Boro whilst still a 21 year old. This equivalent season is the one he broke through starting the season as an 18 year old, making 26 league appearances and being younger than Wood is now.
Jonathan Woodgate played 25 league matches for Leeds in the Premier League the season which he started as an 18 year old.
Willie Maddren was a first team regular in this league in the season he started as a 19 year old.
Tony Adams had played for Arsenal 29 times in the top flight by his 19th birthday.
Rio Ferdinand had played 16 PL matches by the time he started the next season as an 18 year old and played 35 PL matches that season for West Ham.
Sol Campbell started the season at Arsenal an 18 year old and made 34 PL appearances that season.

These are facts. Nathan Wood is not too young at all, it would be madness not to have him in and around this team and let him go.
Not all players develop at the same rate.

You might want to double check your last fact on this list!!!

If we let him go we will be regretting it massively in a couple of years.

When you see the likes of maguire going for £80m, Wood could be up there in a few years. Losing him for a couple of million would be scandalous.

I've heard that the concern is that he doesn't see a path to the first team under warnock. Leeds seems a strange move mind if he is looking for first team football

Wood is by the far the best prospect weve had in that position for many a year. Hes well in advance of what Dael Fry and Ben Gibson were at that age. Granted he might not be ready for regular Championship football just yet, so hopefully the powers to be will handle his development in the right way.

There was a sizeable clamour to sell Fry just over a year ago, it would be crazy (unless crazy money is offered!) to even think of selling him (both Fry and Wood).

Shaun beat me to it. Selling Nathan Wood now would be a criminal act.

I did, but I think McNair was at CB during our best spells last season
in a 3 yes, if he can attack the ball with the insurance of a CB to cover him he can do ok, but without that insurance he's a liability. In a 4 I'd have Fry, then Hall, then Wood. I'd consider Dijksteel and Bola on a par with McNair in a 4.
