Nathan Jones doing a fantastic job at Luton

The excuse of lack of investment at Boro simply doesn't hold up when you look at Luton or Millwall etc. I mean even Rotherham are doing well.

I think it shows a good team spirit and a tough side to beat is bigger and better than 'names'. I imagine the majority of managers / fans look at our squad and think 'I'd I've him' about the majority of our players. So it's weird as to why we are awful.

He didn't last long at Stoke.

Saying that, Alex Neil is having a hard time at Stoke too and he's an excellent manager at this level.

Are Stoke very similar to us?

Appears the root of their problems go deeper, just like us.

There are certain managers who just fit their clubs and Jones is with Luton. He is the reason Luton are where they are. He wouldn’t necessarily succeed at other clubs. He has scrimped and got cast offs from other clubs. He took a couple from Barnsley (Woodrow) when they were relegated. He got Adebayu from Walsall who had scored 50+ goals in 2 seasons. Luke Berry from Cambridge. His sides are big and strong and bully teams.

We should learn from his formula.

I've said that all along, it doesnt matter what a managers CV is, or his profile as a former player, if he's the right fit it'll work, vig, big part of it is down to luck of right club, right man

His stints at Luton are certainly impressive although a mate who is Stoke fan despises him.

Could be that he's a one-club manager in that everything is set up perfectly at Luton for him to get the best of out the squad.

Yes. He’s been superb at Luton. And I wish we’d take these players from lower league teams and improve them.

Agreed, but also look at the state of this board when we sign a player who hasn't got 100+ England caps and a couple of Balloon d'Or's to their name.

Very good manager at Luton during both spells, his time at Stoke probably shows its very hard to replicate that model and the ingredients needed for success at a different sized clubs. Some mangers, and players for that matter, just work at certain clubs but are a car crash elsewhere.

The similarity between us and Stoke is we have handed out over generous contracts to players whose ability has been hyped up and we have fallen for it. The lack of desire shown when the chips are down demonstrates that the players are not willing to move out of their comfort zone. A lot of the lads here are pretty much set for life and play as if they have nothing to prove. The players at Stoke have been similar in profile which, when Jones went in and asked them to play with more fight, intensity and not to give up they downed tools. Yes, managers do make a difference but only if the players give a damn.

I thought that Norwich sending off was diabolical, the Luton defender should be ashamed of himself but that's modern football.
