Back in 1962 my 14yo self was sat in Bindoffs barbers in Doggie market place and the Beatles playing Love Me Do came on the radio to send shivers down my spine. 50 years later I was sat in a hotel lobby in Puerto del Carmen, Mexico waiting for a taxi and some music was being played over the pa that had the same effect on me. I went over to reception and asked what it was and it was Lana Del Rey's Born To Die.

I've said on here before that I regard her first three albums* the same as I would a trilogy of novels. The track "Carmen" on the first album stuck out as a bit of an anomaly, but all made sense when I heard "Honeymoon". I'm continually impressed by her songwriting and continually return to those three albums, much as I am also into her other albums too. I have read that the next one, planned for June, will be somewhat different.

* I don't include the "Lana Del Rey" in first three albums, since I didn't know of her till Peter Gabriel suggested her for "Later..."

Jellyfish only ever made two albums (of which Spilt Milk is my favourite), so to fill the vacant third spot, I'll suggest Solid State Warrior by their former member Roger Joseph Manning Jr.
The Imperial Drag album is pretty good.

Could have gone with a few bands. Furs. Go Betweens. Transglobal Underground. Crowded House. Slits. First aid Kit.

But the band I have the tightest association with, through thick and thin, is The Wildhearts. Ginger's mercurial and eclectic songwriting. The endless hooks and harmonies. And the pretty much uniques blend of Faces rock n roll, punk and dirty Motorhead rawk ... and the incredible live performances when they are on it. They get more hooks and riffs into one song than most bands get on an album.

Anyway, albums.

Earth vs The Wildhearts (start with My Baby Is a Headfuck ... incredible Mick Ronson bottle neck solo).

Chutzpah! - (start with Mazel Tov)

Renaissance Men - (start with Let em Go ... feat Frank Turner).

Best rock n roll band in the world.

Thanks for all the many and varied suggestions on this thread which have made up a great walking playlist, that I've enjoyed in the sunshine. Sadly brought down with a bump by listening to the match this afternoon, so maybe a little more good music tomorrow, weather permitting.
