Name a place you have visited that never lived up to the hype.

Stonehenge.. now I get it's just tall rocks in a field, though the area around it is just: nothing... Castlerigg in Keswick - if it's stones were as tall - that would be a far more impressive location.

Indeed, Castlerigg is far more impressive as it's surrounding mountains just make it a better experience. I don't even mind the smaller stones.
Castlerigg is magic. I love how its just there - no faff, just a gate to a field and you have some of the most fantastic views in the UK.

I really want to go to the pyramids and Athens for the acropolis but I have seen so little positivity about either. Maybe I need to go on a cruise and just pass through.

I love how subjective peoples experiences are in life, really crazy how one can perceive a place/ experience and another can have the total opposite finding.

I think Mona Lisa was uninspiring compared to such other amazing items in the Louvre and the beauty of parts of Paris more generally.

Not much at Landsend either.
We stayed in Athens for a few days prior to a cruise. The acropolis and the agora are wonderful but make sure you pick your hotel well. Some areas have been decimated by the economic down turn and influx of refugees. Drugs and open poverty are endemic. I love Greece but Athens is someting different. Stay around the govt/ embassy area, safe and nice.

The Pyramids at Giza
At the age of 14, I naively expected there to be short drive through a bit of desert or wilderness to get there :ROFLMAO:
Devastated to find they were at the end of what was essentially a Cairo suburbun street complete with streetlights!

Mine is niagara falls the Canadian side.

Now don’t get me wrong the falls are absolutely stunning and worth a trip alone as they are magnificent but the town around it is again like Blackpool but imagine Blackpool after a nuclear Armageddon/zombie apocalypse.

tacky isn’t the word.

Los Angeles is just a nasty soulless sprawl.
Rio was a disappointment I have to say.
Honolulu and Waikiki on Oahu - 30 years ago. Been back to Hawaiian islands since but not there.

Dishonourable mentions too for Marseilles and Brussels. Both are horrible places.

Never been but looks like a massive improvement on Blackpool, not a tracky, piece of litter, stag/hen do or boarded up shop in sight!

With you on Rio.

Also I never liked Vegas.

I thought New York was a dirty London with rude arrogant people.

The only place I have enjoyed in the USA is San Fransico.

As someone who lived for 4 years in San Francisco and so have a real fondness for the city, I still can't understand how you'd prefer SF over NY.
