Name a place that once you visited exceeded your perception

we did a self drive safari for 10 days in Botswana. The border crossing was something else!!! :D
Haha - Yes it was - I can't remember where the crossing was but it was a busy little port with a ferry across to Bots. The guy ferrying us over was convinced I was a mercenary (not sure why) which was very disconcerting.

Copenhagen, because I lived there for 4-5 years when it cheap to do so. Now, seemingly like everywhere else, gentrification has priced people out of town.
Rural France, especially the SW.
Carriacou, small island near Grenada.

probably the same as ours. Zambia to Botswana. Then via Kasane. We were on our own and took 4 or 5 hours to cross. Saw some very irate people, no more so than a South African with just a motorbike. We've travelled a lot in middles Africa due to my wifes job a few years ago but that was just a totally bonkers border crossing. Made my Poland to Ukraine last year, like a walk in the park :D

I love Copenhagen and, as our office is in Malmo, I hope to spend a lot more time there. I read recently though that it has become just about the most expensive city in the world to live in.

Bradford
Visited the https://www.sunbridgewells.com/ for underground pubs, museum of moving image, cheap curry houses
and one afternoon when the sun was out, spent a few hours at the large fountain area with our youngest kid playing with all the other kids from all ethnic groups just all enjoying themselves without a hint of trouble / alcohol etc.

My partner grew up in Livingstone so she was showing me all the sights. Unbelievable part of the world!!

Almost everyone I knew who lived there eventually moved. Yes, it’s become too expensive for normals.

Blew my mind is going a bit far but I found Torremolinos much better than I expected. The old part of town is really nice.

I always thought all the towns on the costa would be awful but this made me think again and we've now visited a few others. They all seem to have parts that are not so good and others that are much better and unspoiled. I might even give Benidorm a go one day!

Paris was way better than I expected too. I had the idea that everybody there hates tourists - especially the English. I didn't find that at all. And it's beautiful.

Amsterdam and Rome also worth a mention.

Ljubljana and Lake Bled. Lovely capital and people, not spoilt by much tourism. Lake Bled is awesome with crystal clear water. Been twice will go back again some day.
Fantastic, seriously tempted to get a Vienna - Ljubljana - Trieste rail trip sorted out.

Sweden for me - visited on the off-chance a few years and fell in love with the place. Spent a while working out there (now unfortunately ended) but we did buy a little Summer place so we'll always have a reason to go back.

One for the future - we're off to Halifax for the night in a few weeks. Hoping it lives up to the "Shoreditch of the North" tag. (y)

I spent a couple of years working in Malmo and Copenhagen. Malmo is a fantastic city in the summer, although rather dark and dreary in the winter it must be said.

I also like Helsingborg down the coast, especially in the summer when you can go to all the bars along the beach.
