My theory on Dieng

He declared himself fit for Afcon, did some training, knackered himself and made his injury worse. And the Boro are furious. Complete guess but who knows.

Or maybe it's to reward Glover for his loyalty and deciding to miss the Asian Cup. Not that it's better for the team.

I'm leaning towards this.

Wouldn't surprise me if we'd negotiated with Glover and Australia to have him miss the squad if we guaranteed him a certain number of starts in return.

Which would be infuriating, but would make more sense than Carrick suddenly going mad and thinking Glover is the answer.

Surelly Australia have 3 better keepers than Glover. Also given that we signed both keepers in the summer you'd think the club would plan for a season where there is AFCON and Asian cup in such a key position... apparently not.

What a mess.

They do one actually joined the prem in the window.

I reckon it’s a combination of two things:

Dieng being 90% more than 100% and not wanting to risk him

And Carrick saying (through action) - I don’t have my favourites, if you play well (enough) then you’ll keep your place
But Glover hasn’t performed well enough to be chosen over Dieng, he was pretty solid while Dieng was away but recently he’s been poor

I think it fits with Carrick’s message of wanting players to take risks and not be afraid of mistakes. If he drops Glover immediately after a mistake, that goes against that core message

It’s mad how there’s always a conspiracy theory whenever someone isn’t in the team with Boro. Some people just make up entire narratives to explain it. Does anyone really believe Carrick would purposely pick a weakened team during a run of poor results when we’re playing the best team in the league? The most likely scenario is that Dieng is either not fully fit but still able to play if Glover is injured or he hasn’t played as well as Glover in training.

I'd say that Glover being better in training being the reason would make far less sense than an agreement for Glover to be given game time if he didn't go to the Asian Cup, seeing as Glover has cost us in the last 3 games in a row.

Weird he's not starting if fit. Glover has done OK in his absence. Yet not enough to keep him out.

It's not like an outfield player that needs his fitness building up after injury. If he's fit enough for the bench then as a GK he's 'fit'.
