My favourite Albums from 1970

tripleheader

I was only 12 but had older influences around me.

Deja Vu
Bridge Over Troubled Water
Led Zep 111
What were yours?

Strangely or not, I got into C.C.R again after watching the Vietnam series on cable. Let in Be nearly made the list for me.

Caravan - if I could do it all over again, I'd do it over you

Incredible String Band - I looked up

The Who - live at leeds

It was a good year:

Zappa - Burnt Weeny Sandwich, Weasels Ripped My Flesh + Chungas Revenge
Black Sabbath - Debut + Paranoid
Neil Young - After the Goldrush
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Led Zeppelin - III
Jethro Tull - Benefit
Can - Soundtracks
Lindisfarne - Nicely Out of Tune

For me CCR were THE best ever- Even at 66 years old I still sing and play their songs regularly.
Bridge over Troubled water was FAB .
Flippin' eck- I'm 15 again

Got to be the Stones.. "Get Yer Yas Yas Out" played very loudly. Quote "Charlies good tonight" and " I've bust a button on my trousers.........." Secondly Chicago 11 with 25 or 6 to 4 on it played not so loudly!

Cat Stevens - Tea For The Tillerman first album I ever bought with my first weeks wage.
Neil Young - After the Goldrush
CSN&Y - Deja Vu
McCartney - same
Emmitt Rhodes - same
The Band - Stage Fright
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
Matthews Southern Comfort - Later That Same Year, and also Second Spring
The Beatles - Let It Be
George Harrison - All Things Must Pass

EDIT: Sorry see you asked for favourites. Although I still love and play all of these top four are my favourites.

This is hard because I conflate what I listened to 3 yrs later, what I picked up from my elder brother (Free, Led Zep. - that I still love now) with what I actually liked in 1970.

But two albums I definitely bought and loved then as a 14 year old were Deep Purple in Rock and the Bumpers sampler album

Your mention of Bumpers sampler reminded me of this. Nice Enough to Eat budget priced sampler album released by Island Records in 1969 which I bought in 1970. A brilliant album to this day. Some fantastic songs/artists on it.

Nice Enough to Eat is a budget priced sampler album released by Island Records in 1969.
Continuing the policy set by its predecessor You Can All Join In, the album presented tracks from the latest albums by established artists including Free, Traffic, and Jethro Tull, and introduced tasters from newer signings to the label, notably Nick Drake and King Crimson. The inclusion of the Nick Drake track, "Time Has Told Me", has been credited with providing the first opportunity for many record buyers to hear Drake's music.
It was priced as low as 14 shillings and 6 pence (£0.72), less than half of the standard album price at the time.

I was 10 - didn't take much notice apart from (as mentioned before) the collection at my grandparents house.

A friend of mine invited me for tea one night and his father was playing music, I asked what it was and he said "the new Barclay James Harvest" - it sounded heavenly but I had no idea who or what they were as a band

But a few years later I remember looking at previous releases and buying:

The Man Who Sold The World - David Bowie
Led Zeppelin III

My father bought
Atom Heart Mother - Pink Floyd and I listened to that incessantly

In around 1974 I heard Neil Young - After the Gold Rush and was hooked.

Like you, I also got a 1969 sampler in 1970: Son of Gutbucket. Great title and this time Liberty Records. The only artist from it I went on to buy was Roy Harper
