I joined in 1987 when working near London - went on a few away trips and the home Leicester game in May 1988 - they could get cheap group rate travel on British Rail which was a big discount then. In 1987/8 there were about 60 members, it had just re formed after no club in the mid 1980s. I think I stayed a member when I moved back up North in 1988, but it was more for the magazine.
I remember an away game to Brum in 1987 when the club director with the stationery business came with us. The photographer Paul Thompson came on trips too before he became famous. I still see Roy Chatto at games he must be mid 80s now and was a an oldish member in 1987. I noticed to used to book an area of the Star and Garter on Southfield Road for their lunches when it was still open. Geoff Vickers was a good organiser - I think he was a Lloyds Bank Manager.
The Magazine became a professional publication, better than most of the stuff in WH Smith. I did go to annual do in North London when Mclaren was boss and there must have been nearly 300 people at the do. The do's were after a game in London so the players dropped in, with the team coach parked outside. It was rumpoured at ome point that MSS was the biggest London based supporters Club, so many Teessiders were going to London to work in the 1990s/2000s.
