MP tests positive

Nadine Dorries. Guess that’ll be Parliament shutting down then. I’m surprised they haven’t already though to be fair.

Bojo hosted her for IWD. Started feeling unwell on Friday, confirmed diagnosis tonight. Held surgery Saturday

She is the Minister for Patient Safety FFS and was in Westminster all week and met hundreds of people and attended a reception at No.10 on Thursday, so Johnson may soon look foolish for his govts slow and inadequate response. 2500 Atletico fans flying into UK for Liverpool game from Madrid, the worst affected Spanish city, crazy

Tend to agree with this.

I thought the Government was doing ok with this to start with, particularly the Health Secretary. However, ever since our part-time PM has become more prominent, they seem to have completely taken their eyes off the ball.

You only have to look at Italy to see what can happen with this virus if you don’t crack down on it from the outset.

Every other country in Europe seems to be cancelling public gatherings, sports events and introducing travel restrictions. We’ve suddenly decided to sit back and wait to see what happens. Very strange.

Bizarrely her 80+ year old mother lives with her, and has now started with a cough. You'd have thought from the moment she realised she had the virus she'd have shipped her mother off somewhere else in the outside chance she hadn't already spread the disease.

South Korea seems to have done the best job of controlling the virus. They have high numbers of positive cases, but only because they test 10,000 people a day. So their 55 deaths gives a "low" mortality rate of 0.7% (probably the most accurate) because they catch even the mild cases.

Johnson is listening to the science but I fear it may be his undoing. For his advisers the virus seems to be an academic exercise. They don't want to stop the virus, they assume it will run its course. They simply want to delay the peak impact until the summer. This probably makes perfect sense scientifically but no sense at all politically. As a result the virus is all over the country, and even if they want to it is impossible now to lock it down geographically. There is now the potential for an explosion in cases. They needed to restrict unnecessary travel and introduce quarantine for travelers from infected areas sooner, even if it meant the country would be locked down for longer.

In both the US and UK there has been a systemic failure to test often enough and early enough to manage the virus.

My wife works in the nhs as a nurse. it’s very much ‘we’ll cross that bridge when we get to It’ in terms of advice

There is no doubt that Johnson is interested in the economy much more than the people. I fear his decisions are more to do with getting brexit done than potentially saving lives.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s been seen as an opportunity, a chance to reduce the state pension and elderly care bills by thinning the herd.

Oh Nadine, in your hour of need
please send us all some solace.
Say you sneezed into a tissue,
then smeared it all over Boris.

Jesus the tin foil hat brigade are up and at it today. Reduce state pension and elderly care bills? 6 people have died for Christ sake. I’m sure the government will be jumping for joy all that money they’ve saved.

Indeed. As awful as the victim is in this case, nobody deserves such a nasty horrible thing inflicted upon them.

Thoughts and sympathies are with the Coronavirus at this difficult time 😉

The Government are taking advice from medical experts.

They've been saying for a while now that most of us will probably be infected with this virus at some stage. It's hardly suprising that MP's (who come in to contact with 100s or 1000s of people) are going to come down with it. It's not really got anything to do with the 'advice' being bad.

Most of what is going on right now is trying to control the surge in cases when it comes.... in the hope that the NHS can vaguely cope.

Also, let's face it, if the Govt had tried to take extreme measures two weeks ago (when lots of people were saying "it's just a bad cold") then I bet many people would have ignored them. Surely there has to be an element of realisation before people will adhere to stuff like that?
