Most gutted you have ever been as a Boro fan

Looking at this with more perspective than yesterday when I felt like crying for most of the day. So many heartbreaking games that we all remember but probably more good than bad ones over the years. Certainly more good days than Coventry fans have had over the last 25 years at least!

I’ve always gotten over the shockers eventually and will move on from this one day. I wouldn’t change supporting Boro for anyone!

UTB and let’s finish in the top 2 next year 💪

Last night will take some beating, and I go back to Wolves in the FA Cup.
I was sensing that we had the makings of a good squad, and this was a great chance that will be hard to replicate.
Agree with this as I'm probably of a similar age. I didn't choose Boro as my team. I remember as a young child that football was for whatever reason an important part of our family discussion and our relative happiness for the weekend. After leaving our Stockton street house for the posh concubine of semi detached rural Billingham I was greeted by a group of kids who were desperate to know what in our removal van. The first question I was asked by the leader of the Under 10s welcoming party was, " what team do yer support ?".
After a 10 second impasse the local guy showed his hand and said.......we all support The Boro. So the die was cast, not wanting to upset the locals on day one, I joined the group.
After many heady days of relative success ( I'm from an era where success is mid table comfort) I remember vividly a shift....a team that the area, my street, my school, even my cynical dad, were starting to murmur about.....this could be our year. We had a good team. I heard words being uttered about The Boro that I didn't recognise., young, hungry, skilful. It was alien to me. I was lifted on the crest of a wave. I was excited, anxious, optimistic.....all those things. We were drawn away to Wolves in the 6th round of the FA Cup (the proper FA Cup not the diluted one where nobody sits in front of the telly all day watching the build up).......and we got beat. And that was me, my first big disappointment.

Well done for dispelling one of the biggest myths in Boro history, its often repeated that we'd have won the cup if we'd beaten Cardiff that day which is nonsense. We would have likely gotten to the final but Portsmouth were a better team that season and would have started as favourites.

That Boro team had a very soft centre which the Cardiff game showed, as did relegation the following year.

Yes, I think if we'd have beaten Cardiff, we'd have had around a 1 in 3 chance of lifting the cup. Less than 50/50 chance of beating Pompey in the final, maybe 40/60, and a small chance we'd have come a cropper in the semi.

Last night ranks highly as one of my biggest disappointments as a Boro fan.

After drawing at their place the tie was set up perfectly for us. It was disappointing enough to lose but we went out with a whimper, which makes it even worse.

I didn't go to the Norwich game so I was desperate to see my team at Wembley for the first time. Hope I get another opportunity.
You'll have more fun stepping on an upturned plug than watching the Boro at Wembley.
