Monzo Bank

Same here. Excellent service and incredibly easy to use. Customer centric design at its best.

That said I've never actually took the plunge to use as my main bank, just transfer money in to spend when needed.

Has anyone had any experience transferring direct debits over for example?

yes, absolutely no problem at all. why would there be?!?!

Just never done it before. Assumed it would be probably be a one click job so good to know 👍

its not one click. my understanding is its the same as most banks, its something best done manually by dealing with each transaction (company) individually. I used the cass auto system, which moved everything over, but then closes the old account, I'm guessing you dont want that. sorry for the confusion.

Ah right, no worries. Should have been clearer in that I've never changed my main bank so wasn't sure what is involved in a "normal" change if that makes sense.

It's loads easier if you use the switching service and close down your old account as all your dd will go over easily but I appreciate that some will want to keep their old bank account.

If so then you can follow this

I use starling and have done so for a couple of years , I was going to get a Monzo card but on paper it seemed like Starling had larger use limits and less fees for using overseas and that is my main reason for using it. I still keep looking at the other cards, to see if one becomes better for using overseas and now receiving euros and changing into pounds.

Looking to switch to these in the not too distant future. Daughter has been with Monzo for a couple of years and no complaints.

App etc looks excellent - far better than the clunky Nationwide one we use at present.
You're still not over the fact you didn't get the £100 from them are you?

F*cking shysters. Absolute pack of b*stards......🤬🤬🤬

Hehe, seriously their banking app/practices are a bit .....sh*t and old hat, and like I said my daughter uses Monzo and it looks spot on. So probably keep the Nationwide account open for all direct debits / bills etc then have the Monzo as a spends account.

why do so many people only use monzo as a spending account?! am I missing something?
Personally had a few issues a few years ago when we switched from the Co-op to Nationwide. Supposed to be dead good, everything done for you......but we had a few issues. So just a little bit wary moving over wholesale.

That and a rather large overdraft........😳

On the strength of what I have read on here, I have signed up. Will gradually move everything form my high street sccount that I have had since I was a lad.

I posted a little earlier on this thread, but it's worth saying again - Chase is the best banking provider currently, for a current account; no fees abroad (including ATM's), 1% on the current account and easy to set up an instant access savings account on the app, which currently pays 3.8%.

The Martin Lewis website is a good place to compare the different accounts.

In my case, pure laziness. Although having transferred money multiple times a month over the last 4 or so years that time could have been spent setting it up properly and closing my other account 😂

It also stems from the fact that originally it wasn't a properly licensed bank and you had to run the account as a top up rather than main bank account.

There's something intrinsic about our relationships with banks and the legacy companies rely on that to continue to serve up shyte. You'll all recall the work of Natwest in the 80s trying to get kids and students signed up by giving away piggy bank collectors. It's because we're sticky when it comes to changing bank and often well never change at all. Interesting phenomenon for sure.

BTW - I can see a couple of people have used the link to sign up that I shared. It's only worth the price of a pint for you but I think you'll be happy with opening an account for what it's worth regardless 👍🏻
