Mohamed Al-Fayed

I did a project for Harrods about 5 years ago well after he had sold up and there were plenty of stories about his overstepping the mark with young women, now there was no mention criminal actions but loads about how he kept HR on speed dial with NDAs ready!

I mean, where to begin 😥

How do lots of abusers get away with behaviour like this till after they are dead?
I’ve worked at Harrods and everyone knew it was going on. Or suspected it was going on. My other half and some of her best friends worked there as well so between us all we have worked in and spoken to a lot of different departments.

I worked there fairly recently so it was long after he left but lots of staff - lots of women - who were there when he was all had similar stories. It was still something that was talked about long after he’d sold up.

He would do regular floor walks and single out certain female employees for special attention, he would invite certain female employees up to his office and be very upset if they didn’t oblige. I say upset, I mean he’d ensure those people were sacked. He was a very ‘touchy feely’ employer by all accounts. Lots of the women who worked there when he was the owner have stories to tell.

It happens because he’s a rich and powerful man and that goes a very, very long way.

I can never get my head round why so many people protect abusers like this creep (selling their conscience).... And in doing so..... Discharge any moral responsibility to the vulnerable and victims.... The HR staff.... Lawyers..... And in all likelihood clinical staff (who undertook sexual health checks - for staff working at Harrods - WTF) ..... just appalling on every possible level..... How any reasonable person can think it is ok to scribe a NDA to keep a victim quiet..... Makes that person as culpable as the perpetrator in my opinion because it enables the perpetrator to continue to abuse!!!!!

I can’t help but think that this was the norm in the 90s, early 2000s. I think over the next few years a lot more will come out. Disgusting abuse of power.
I think it's been the norm forever - who you know, powerful ' entitled' position & money buys silence..
