Middlesbrough's "Historic Quarter"

I felt at the time why did they put the A66 through a shopping area - once Middlesbrough Dock shut in 1980 it could have gone between the river and the railway line. The Exchange Building then would have been saved.

I know it shouldn't and that i should let it go, but this annoys me every time I drive through the town on the A66, or park in the Zetland car park and walk underneath the A66 into town.

The decision to carve the A66 right through the town centre demolishing several key buildings and effectively annexing off and separating parts of the town, was at best short sighted and idiotic, but at worst was incompetent and negligent.

It never ceases to amaze me who signs off these things . They are still happening . Remember the scientific institute not so long ago. Scandalous

Including my house.

How many 'Quarters' do we have at?
Given M'boro councils track record, it will be three, wiht the funding for the 4th going to consultants, who will never visit Boro and tell the council something that the average man, woman, child or dog in the street could have told the council for free.

Well we've got the South Bank...

think of it less as "quarters" and more as districts from the Hunger Games. I for one cant wait for the return of the snow dome crew as part of the Arctic quarters uprising in stiff competition with the Pally Park Massive for overall control of the district.

The scientific institute was a lovely building which got flattened to provide a car park which holds 30 cars . Shocking .
Get the flyover demolished and re routed over the border . Another ridiculous decision putting it through what was the centre of town , and demolishing part of the historic quarter in the exchange building and the Brunswick pub

maybe the historic quarter would be more accurately described as the historic sixteenth?

I really dislike the way everything has to be described as Quarters these days but that aside there's some great stuff on this web site.

its the same old story - "the price of everything and the value of nothing". - we wont ever see buildings of that quality again.
