The team are going from strength to strength and now topping the league. They have a massive game on Sunday 2pm at Stockton Town's Map Group UK Stadium, (Bishopton Road) against title favourites, Barnsley. Then the next home game is against the Doncaster Rovers Belles (a name with great importance in the women's game) at the Riverside on Sunday 10th March 2pm.

You pay on the gate on Sunday - £5 and Under 16s free - there is a big car park on site (Stockton 6th Form) the ground has an 1800 capacity including 200 covered seats. The ground is on no 13 bus route.

There were over 1000 at the first Riverside Middlesbrough Women game back in September v Stockport County. But the team and the form has really been transformed since. Top of the table after winning 4 games in a row. And with new hotshot striker signing Faye Dale coming in. Do come on down and support our women's team.

Tickets will initially be sold from the West Stand Lower for the Riverside fixture, with further areas opening subject to demand.

  • Adult: £10
  • Over-65: £5
  • Under-18: £5

I interviewed new striker Fay Dale and Middlesbrough Women captain, Sarah Burn this afternoon at the Riverside alongside Boro skipper Jonny Howson.
They were promoting the two women's games and also a new sponsorship deal for the women with Lassa Tyres.
You should see footage on BBC Look North and BBC Radio Tees as well as in the Echo and Gazette.
All great for the promotion of the women's game on Teesside and for the Boro.

Without falling into the 'we are never shown on Tyne Tees' group, Middlesbrough Ladies never get a mention, even when they deserve it. They are getting some great write ups and deserve to be well supported. It would be good to see a big crowd at both games.

BBC Look North were at the press event today interviewing the players.

Middlesbrough Women - Inspiring The Next Generation

Middesbrough Women Captain Sarah Burn talks about what it means to lead her team out at the Riverside. And how much the women's game is growing in general.

Middlesbrough Women play Barnsley on Saturday at Stockton Town Map Stadium 2pm kick off - then at the Riverside to follow on March 10th.

I am Sarah Burn – central midfield

Q: - Big match coming up at the weekend v Barnsley at Stockton – what would it mean to the team to attract a really big support for the team?

SB:
It would be really good to get a big support just to help push us on and try and get that 3 points that we need to stay top of the league.

Q: Because it is fantastic the way you have progressed through the season – I think the last time I saw you in Stockton you were pushing on for 2ndplace..

SB:
Yes, so the journey that we have had and the transition from the get go has been phenomenal. Anyone that has been following us from the start will let you know the difference from game one to where we are at now. If you come and watch with us on Sunday, you will see the difference as well and how hard we have been working and all of it coming into practice on the pitch.

It is really important to get them 3 points this weekend, so if we do have the love and support from everybody coming to cheer us on it is only going to help push us across the line.

Q: And then looking ahead to playing in the Riverside. The first time you played earlier in the season you were just coming together really as a team, weren't you?

SB:
Yes, we played Stockport at the Riverside and yes we hadn't been together that long. And you know I think people forget sometimes that although Middlesbrough isn't a newly formed team if you look at the team this year compared to last year and there is a phenomenal difference. There are about 15 or 16 new additions. So big game, here (Riverside)when we come back. We have been together a lot longer now. We have got some new additions still but we have still got the strong rapport and relationships that we have built now between players on the pitch from back then to now and it shows in the results and speaks for itself that something is working. In training we are working hard. Michael (Mulhern) is really good at what he does and he is pushing us.

Q: It must be special to play at the Riverside in front of a big crowd and for you as captain bringing the team out onto the pitch?

SB:
On a personal level it is fantastic. Last time I walked out with my daughter so it was a proud moment and being able to look down and see her little face looking at the big grass and the people looking up shouting and she is cheering. But it is the bigger picture for me and it is everything else. What happens after that. Them people in the stands watching and the young girls, males whoever that are inspired by football and carrying on their journey or completely new to football and just think actually after that game I am going to pick up a football and I am going to play because that is what it is about.

Walking the team out is always a proud moment. It was fantastic last time but we are all just doing it just for the growth of the women's game and the love and the passion that we have right now.

Q: Because internationally England have done so well and the profile has reallybeen raised. I am guessing all the kids in school know the women's names so well.

SB:
They do now. You know, if you go back a couple of years, before the Euros, if you were to go to a school and started shouting out the names Russo and Ella Toone and Lucy Bronze, I think people would just have looked at you and thought who is that. But now you go into schools and even in grassroots clubs, you've got girls and boys with their names on the back of shirts, which they never had. You know even at our home games there are kids and boys included with our names on the back of their shirts. It is fantastic. The growth in the game is just amazing. It is only going to get bigger and better but we do need the support and we do need to keep pushing. So hopefully everybody can get together for the game at the Riverside. But just as much and just as important is the game at Stockton this Sunday.

Needs a much bigger social media push from the club. Need to get a few first team players there showing their support
They need to look at the local football clubs and doing something with them and the young girls football teams and target them so their parents are bugged to take them along.
I'd imagine crowds will grow when publicity does

Look North did a decent report on the team last night starting with abit of history. We had to play in a Nottinghamshire league to start with due to their being no competitve league in the area

They must have had a camera crew at the York game at the weekend. The only down side is they kept showing the team in Red scoring (maybe thought that was the Boro 🤔)

There was a big media call out on Wednesday with Jonny Howson there lending his support. Sarah Burn, new signing Faye Dale and General Manager Ben Fisher were all there giving interviews - Gazette, Echo. BBC Tees and BBC Look North were all interviewing. Before the Riverside game you will see manager Michael Mulhern following Michael Carrick into the Hurworth hotseat for interviews.

Yeah i saw that, and its good. I've seen more about this Doncaster game and the team this week than i have before, and thats good. It has to continue, especially while they're flying.
Social media is MASSIVE - while they're trying to grow their game and support, be good to get them on as much as possible. Interviews, the daft videos you see where they're doing challenges against each other, behind the scenes stuff like Crooks did when the boro were abroad pre-season, stuff that appeals to kids who will then bug their parents to take them. Free kid with paying adult for anyone registered to a TJFA girls team etc stuff like that.
It's growing and i hope they get more games at the RS and wish them all the success in the world.

I feel like they should be pushing out as many tickets as possible for these matches to raise the profile and interest in the Womens Matches,
Free tickets out to grass roots girls and boys teams and free tickets to schools would be a great gesture and help put some bums on seats. It sort of forces parents to get their kids there.

I know that might mean running a couple of matches a season at a loss but surely they can see the potential long term benefit of that.

They have a media person. A student being trained at Boro.
