Just watching with moist eyes the highlights of that fantastic evening at Hillsborough on the MFC Facebook feed.

It brought back memories of the second “goal” which was brilliantly worked and rounded off by Juninho. But why was it disallowed? Was Beck adjudged to have fouled his man? Didn’t understand it on the night and 24 years later still don’t

Just wondering if Ellarey still smarting from the criticism he got in the first game disallowing that third goal for Chesterfield and therefore looking for something that wasn’t there. . There was absolutely nothing wrong with that Juninho goal

Yes, Festa was offside.
There was a fan book written by a Chesterfield fan called Losing My Religion - really great book actually and also showed you how in football (or anything else) you can close your mind and just become totally illogical. This guy had been a Spireites fans home and away and suffered more than celebrated. But he hated manager John Duncan. And when he managed them on the cup run, he hated it, more and more. Despite it being the best cup run in their history.
At the end of the semi final replay he shook hands with Mbro fans and walked away broken hearted but out of love with Chesterfield and Duncan and presumably never to return, He has lost his religion.
I remember shaking hands over the fence with fans at Hillsborough and wondered if he was one of them. I also wonder whether he ever reflected afterwards on whether he had made an incredible mistake, Or was just a misery.
Anyway, he did get a good book out of it.
But in his head he missed out on the time of his life - he was there but not there.

Foul? Thought it was disallowed for offside?
It was adjudged to be offside but it wasn't. As the commentators said at half time- the linesman who flagged for offside was closer to the halfway line than to the penalty area. Replays show that it was not offside.
In my own mind, if we had avoided relegation we would have won the FA cup, Being relegated just before a cup final is not really the best of preparations.

There are some fans who seemingly resent any kind of out of the norm success. i know City fans who hanker for the 1960s- 80s and dislike the current Man City. Not really comparable compared to their day in the sun that Chesterfield got. I dont quite understand his thought orocess

I remember a Chesterfield fan clawing at the fence, shouting and spitting at us as we walked past. Although he looked ridiculous, I did have some sympathy because the common thought was that we'd robbed them.

It was immensely gratifying to see us beat their brains out though in the replay. I wonder where all those 30,000 or so they took to Old Trafford are now?

I remember the feeling I had sitting in the seats at the end knowing we were going to an FA cup final.
I had gone on my own straight from work in the car. I had recently returned from a holiday and had 5 king Edward cigars with me which I gave out to some fellas around me. It was a bit surreal all puffing away watching the celebrations knowing we had finally made an FA cup final.

Doesn't Sean Dyche know we robbed them ?

He wasn't... there's a review of the final on Sky with someone from Chelsea can't remember who...Steve Clarke possibly? (search Middlesbrough) anyway it's shown and no way is it offside.
