Middlesbrough are in the market for another goalkeeper, Neil Warnock has confirmed, with Dejan Stojanovic set to leave.

Boro lost both Marcus Bettinelli and Jordan Archer in the summer, with the former coming to the end of a disappointing loan spell and the latter released at the end of his contract.

Warnock has added Joe Lumley to his ranks this summer, while Stojanovic returned to Teesside after a half-season loan spell in Germany last term.

However, The Macedonian has not been with the Boro first team in the south west, with manager Neil Warnock confirming he wants to leave the club.

Warnock said: "He wants to leave the club but we don’t have any offers for him at the moment.

“He’s made it clear he wants to leave.

“So we’re looking for another goalkeeper as well.

“But hopefully they fit in together and one leaves and one comes.”

With no Stojanovic in the south west, Boro have just the two goalkeepers with them on their pre-season training camp, with Lumley joined by under-23s stopper Sol Brynn.

With fellow academy prospect Zach Hemming on loan with Kilmarnock for the season, that leaves Brad James who helped inspire Hartlepool United back to the Football League during a loan spell there last term.

However, Warnock revealed the young goalkeeper has suffered an elbow injury and could be out for a significant amount of time.

“Brad James has had to have an operation and he could be out for a few months - potentially as long as six months," Warnock said.

“We don’t know yet [the exact time].

“It’s a proper goalkeeping injury to the elbow. Blacky says a lot of goalkeeper’s do it.

“And he was doing so well this summer in pre-season. I feel really sorry him.”

It's a blow to the young shot-stopper who stood a good chance of getting more opportunities in pre-season having impressed while at Hartlepool.

I did suspect this when he never went to Cornwall. If he wants to leave we let him go, let’s hope someone comes in for him.

will be interested to see what type of replacement we go for, I think I would go for an experienced replacement as competition for Lumley.

I'd be slightly concerned no one comes in for Stojanovic, or knowing he wants out we get meagre offers and are then left with a choice of take a huge loss (admittedly no where near Britt/Fletcher proportions) or keep an unhappy player.

As for back up, I agree, go experienced, potentially a cheap option and also could really help the young keepers.

Is Jamal Blackman still a free agent? Always thought he looked alright, with the possible exception of that Liverpool match.
Jamal Blackman , Orjan Nyland, Stephen Henderson, all OOC so free, any would do,
Ben Siegrist at Dundee is decent , as is Karl Johan Johnsson at Copenhagen who was outstanding v Man Utd and has 9 caps for Sweden. Top Keeper and good age.
The latter 2 would cost £400-£1m , so it all depends if we want a back up or a serious challenger.NW will decide that.

To be fair plenty of decent champo proven keepers available on frees. All late 20s and early 30s. Absolutely no hassle replacing him as he wants out.

A strange signing even at 1mil. He was no better than we already had.

Money back and we've done alright.

Gutted for Brad James after such a high of getting promoted with Hartlepool. I think we should try and make loan deal for Randolph, he's third choice at West Ham with a potential World Cup next year for ROI, he might be wanting to play?

Realistic possible free contract options:

Kieran Westwood
Ryan Allsop
Jamal Blackman
Orjan Nyland
Abdoulaye Diallo
Andy Lonergan...
Brad Jones......

Westwood is 36, but ok for a season(y) or maybe a bit longer?

I assume Stojanovic is no longer being paid then?

I've no problem with him wanting to leave, but until a club comes in for him surely he should be with the squad, training and making himself available for selection? You know, being professional towards his employer that pays his wages. Unless it's a Warnock decision that he doesn't want him around?

Obviously I don't know the full story in this case, but fecks me right off when players throw their toys out of the pram, demand a move, won't train properly but still expect to be paid. In the case of Braithwaite I think he wanted to move but didn't want a pay cut so we ended up paying part of his wages for the privilege of him playing for someone else. It's bonkers.
