Don't shoot the messengerBreaking news? That was Monday's Echo and not exactly unexpected then.....
Brewster has been a disaster especially for the money and he was unproven in the Premier League. They probably could have got Origi from Liverpool for about the same....Sheffield utd have almost as bad a record as us of signing dodgy strikers for exorbitant amounts of money. How much did they pay for tubby Brewster?
Great news with Fletcher, a massive disappointment of a signing, not his fault the price tag, maybe that was the problem but if he were a fee transfer I'd have still thought we were short changed
Swap him for Mr Middlesbrough, he still get more goalsSwap Fletcher for Billy Sharp.
35 year old or not he'd get more goals.

Could be right there, he never seems committed & with been out too often he doesnt get in to a run of match routine, glad hes going mindI do wonder if he is one of these players who won't play with a slight niggle. He rarely looks 100% committed on the pitch and the amount of relatively minor injuries he gets is ridiculous.
Sturridge at Liverpool had a similar mentality (albeit he was a much more talented player in his prime)
Agree the price tag was of no making of him, his attitude on the pitch was ok just his desire to perform & go that extra mile was non existence, sadly he'll be remembered as a £7m flop, price tag apart, he could & should have done more, IMHO, mindSorry to see Fletcher go TBH, got a lot of stick for the fee, and for being the wrong player at the wrong time. Both criticisms are valid, but both are criticisms of Monk, not of him.
I'd like to see more clubs following Gillingham's lead - they refuse to pay agents. The chairman said that if the players want to use agents, it is their responsibility to pay them......This summers transfer activity, especially in our league is going to interesting/chaotic with all the clubs that are in financial difficulty and Covid still casting a shadow over things regarding club income. There'll be a massive amount of player movement I reckon and a large recalibration of what players will be offered. I'm thinking a lot of transfers will take a long time as the agents start off asking for a lot more than clubs will pay and this being whittled down and/or clubs dropping out of signings.
It shows you how bad things have got when apart from the odd player, Fry, Tav, no one will lose any sleep over players leaving.Watching Norwich, Watford and potentially Bournemouth bounce back at the first time of asking just rubs it in about how badly we managed relegation and parachute payments. Although not his fault necessarily, the signing of Fletcher was a big part of this so despite him showing flashes of ability I have no issues with him going. Glad to be getting the final dregs of that Monk team out of the club so that we can re-build for the future
