Middlesbrough announced as Investment Zone - Great News๐Ÿ‘

It seems common sense to me to invest in areas of the UK that are under utilised (such as Teesside). That way a pound invested will give you a lot more than a pound back in GDP growth (giving increased taxes, decreased benefits). You have to throw some initial incentives to get the investment ball rolling a sort of spend to save.

Over heated areas like the South East and some Metropolitan cities would over heat further with more development leading to bigger labour shortages and bigger housing shortages.

Investment zones could help some of the supply side problems in the UK - when the pressures are on Governments, it is interesting to see what goes and what stays.
'Common sense'

When did it ever happen?
When did the area ever see any meaningful investment that had any tangible impact on the poor of this area?
How much do you really expect to see from these 'Investment Zones'?
How much of the Treasury has moved to Darlo and what impact has it had to the town?
What is the 'freeport' and how has it impacted the poor of Teesside?
How much 'levelling' up has been done, show me the numbers?

More banal turgid platitudes... it just goes on and on.

Food banks are empty. People are dying because they can't get appointments to treat their cancer. Families and old people ration their food and sit in the cold with their heating off. The mentally ill can't get help.

"We're all in this together"

At this juncture, with a long hard winter ahead of us and a government hell-bent on punishing the poorest, a quote from Tony Benn feels appropriate. We really need to get used to the idea of helping each other, there's currently no other option ...

"There is no final victory, as there is no final defeat. There is just the same battle. To be fought over and over again. So toughen up. Bloody toughen up."

Finally.

So let's have more posts from you supportive of the Labour Party and its policies and fewer snivelling, sycophantic Tory cheerleader type posts.

Thanks ๐Ÿ‘
In the Solitaire Group we are encouraged to explore both sides of the argument.
I'm simply trying to remove some blinkers here ๐Ÿ‘

If that's the case, then why announce the OP as gospel when it contained zero actual information on what an investment zone would bring to the region and like most promises we get, is quietly scrapped.

This is simply another case of the Tories over promising and under delivering.
