Just got this delivered this morning. I've only had a chance to flick through it as I'm working, but it's well worth £20.

I hope the author doesn't mind me posting this snapshot of one of many brilliant colourised images, but he may forgive me if it helps shift more copies...

Paul Menzies was my history teacher for my five years at secondary school. A really nice bloke(looking back) and a massive Boro supporter. He used to have photographs of himself with the top Boro and Premier League players of the day all over his classroom walls. Of course, we used to rip him for it but it can’t be denied that it gave him a bit of kudos that other teachers didn’t have and had no chance of getting.

Be interested to know if he posts on here. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did TBH.

He doesn't Viv. But his book is superb. You will see some amazing views in that book familiar now but quite different through the 19th century lens.
Paul is going to reproduce some blow ups of pages for us to display during Discover Middlesbrough in October.

He's knocked some decent stuff out over the years and I loved catching his contributions on Radio Tees when Bob Fischer had his afternoon show (still missed). I think he may have been at the same school as myself in Billingham

Spoke to him regarding Cannon Street riots and does a great history programme on local radio. Lovely chap Paul, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a free plug for his book :)
