Michael carrick into 6/1 second fav

He’s obviously seen videos of our season so far!
Something is clearly wrong this season, but most of the key players from last season are still here and we've added a decent keeper and LWB.

I don't buy the team becoming so poor overnight as suggested by some.

Strikers not scoring is the biggest issue imho. Followed by whatever has been going on internally.

He ultimately failed and he's gone, the slagging seems pretty poor form and pretty pointless. You defended Warnock to the hilt after he was sacked and he was guilty of pretty much everything on your list too. Except you could add used us as a platform to air his political views and treated referees and their assistants appallingly as well.
absolutely.

I've slated Warnock for being an utter dinosaur, and I'm going to be even handed and slate Wilder for not being half as smart as he thought he was. Bought into his own hype and couldn't show it on the training ground or on a saturday in the dugout.

Our strikers have got 9 goals in 11 games, Thats' about 40 games in a season, or 2x 20 goal strikers. Yeah players like Watmore have missed chances, but strikers always will. Not sure they're the problem.

It's a lack of goals elsewhere that I find difficult. Set pieces are important and our CBs have zero goals 1/4 of the way through the season. In fact the 3 best CBs (Fry, Lenihan and Dijksteel) have 13 goals in 520 league starts, they're not a goal threat at set pieces.

Midfield, McGree has 2 goals but has missed loads of good opportunities, Crooks has 2 and is a goal threat. But Howson, Mowatt, Jones and Giles aren't gonna score many. Were heavily reliant on Muniz, Akpom and Crooks to get a bare minimum of 50 goals between them.

Add onto that the lack of defensive performances and you get why we are in this position.

Injuries to Lenihan, Steffen & Akpom who scuickly and publicly because 1st choice. Injury to Crooks, Mowett returning from injury with midfield already stripped down and academy prospects being deemed no fit for purpose. Huge turnover combined with a lot of players out of contract again in the summer. Tough to cobble something together with what is left!

We've scored 14 goals in 13, using three/four strikers, taking the season as a whole.

We don't do well enough on set pieces, which is where defenders normally find goals. Why is that?

We have conceded too many that is certainly true. Not helped by a couple of really bad results.

I think none of our CBs are good at attacking the ball. For whatever reason they simply haven't been coached in making aggressive runs across defenders. I don't htink it's us coaching it out of them, Lenihan has 10 goals in about 8 years, Dijksteel arrived with 1 career goal, I'm not advocating we sign player purely on their ability from set pieces (we've been there with Flint) but it should be possible for at least one of our CBs to be some kind of danger.

If Carrick even has to consider, whether he wants to return to football with Middlesbrough FC - id call that an off and leave the room - if the bloke isn't 100% committed to football, he won't survive and may do damage to himself (mental health) in our manager's chair.

I'm sure Gibbo knows that.

I'm pretty sure it'll be that he wants to ensure it's what he considers the right club to begin his full time managerial career at, rather than whether he wants to return to football at all.

Can't say I blame him for putting some thought in to it either.

This was him on the 1st of September when asked about management:

"I've enjoyed coaching, but I did enjoy the management role more. It's difficult to make a plan in football, but if something comes along, then yes, for sure I'll consider it, I'm definitely not chasing it, and I'm not desperate for a job right now. But at some point, it'll be good to have a go."

He's had less than a year out of the game, after over 20 years of it being his entire life, he's probably just enjoying a bit of time with his family.

Maybe Carrick is wary that Boro have become trigger happy firing managers given our recent history is just wants to be sure he isn't walking into a basket case .

He is potentially walking into a very hard job , and may not fancy it . ( As is whoever comes in if it is not him )
We need a totally committed person with a bit of experience, someone who is happy to live in the area , and have the ambition the fans have .
Is MC that man ? The interview will sound him out , has he done his homework? Does he know the issues ? The weaknesses? Does he have the answers? Big week ahead for SG / KS .
We can’t afford to get this wrong .
In SG I trust . UTB

During Man United’s three games under Carrick, they started each with a flat-back four; usually set up in a 4-2-3-1. His United played with noticeably more movement and positional rotations than Solskjaer’s, Bruno Fernandes even trialled as a false nine. The dropping of Cristiano Ronaldo for Carrick’s first game, the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, is also proof that the 41-year-old is not afraid of big decisions; leaving out his most high-profile player in order to help improve United’s pressing ability from the front.

Getting rid of a proven championship manager to appoint a complete unknown doesn’t really add up for me. With all the money this is costing couldn’t we have just bought Wilder his two midfielders which would probably have us close to the top 6 right now?

Scary to think if this is the wrong appointment which it could very well be then it’s likely league one for us

I can remember watching something at the time where Bill Beswick was having regular meetings with Southgate, Bates and Andrew Davies. It was all about leadership and winning at all costs.

It’s well known that the half time team talks against Basel and Steuea were done by Southgate and not McClaren.
Some could view that as good management letting the captain have his say

We got rid of Mowbray and appointed Karanka. Karanka added a group of good players to a good group signed by Mowbray. The team started to fly. There’s no reason to think the same can’t happen under Carrick and some of the current squad.

Karanka inherited Adomah, Ayala, Friend, Gibson and Leadbitter but he also inherited Carayol, Emnes, Jutkiewicz, Richardson and Kamara.

The new bloke needs to tighten us up at the back and build from there, then strengthen the midfield in January. Again, there is absolutely nothing to suggest Carrick can’t or isn’t able to do that.

I get that we’re struggling, managerless, 22nd. Things are at quite a low ebb. But some of the stuff I’ve read on here over the past few days, a lot of it reads as defeatist nonsense borne of a misplaced sense of entitlement.

Some people seem so angry, so bitter, so sure they’re right about how sh*t the Boro and those running it are. You really do wonder why some people follow us, it seems to bring so much misery. I remember when I started going in 1990/91, we were team trying to get back up and had never won anything or even reached a big final before. There did seem to be some sort of humour to be found in it though, something still to be enjoyed, a sort of shared experience. That just doesn’t seem to be there any more.

I remember blokes swearing and stuff but nobody really stood in the corner of the Holgate shouting about how’d they’d been through the club’s accounts and we’re f*cked and so are you. This level of criticism I’ve seen here every day for a week and often before, right since game one of the season, it feels genuinely unpleasant TBH.

Anyway, Carrick. No reason he can’t lift the place and instil some confidence IMO. Good luck to him if he takes it. I’d be optimistic but I was optimistic about Wilder. And the rest of them before him.

To be honest if he didn't take it I would be quite disappointed now....I'm really liking the idea now...a proven manager in wilder hasn't worked....let's try our old formula ...it has been successful in the past .. to varying degrees at the end of rhe day no matter where we are no matter what league we're in we are the boro.....
