Met a homeless man on Saturday

What I do know is that there are absolutely phuck-loads of homeless folk in central London now (Oxford Street/Euston Road). Its awful to see. I spend a night here about once a fortnight and every time it feels like there are more.
The real homeless don’t count…..
Because someone has seen one or two cheating the system

TBH I haven't seen anybody visibly cheating the system.

But as a country we seem more bothered about nuclear weapons that don't work, outdated railway proposals that won't improve anything and making sure British Gas are making lucrative profits than we are about keeping folk off the streets.

I rarely give money to people in the street now, but I've have to think homelessness is one of the great shames of any first world country.

My concern has always been am I doing the right thing when I give money? My solution has been to make a small but regular donation to Shelter. While I know some of this money will go to pay charity workers rather than directly benefit the homeless, I feel more confident that my money is being used well by doing this, rather than if I just give money to the man in the street.

I do the same. I did give a bloke about £1.70 last night outside the massive Primark, rare I actually have any change tbh. 2 minutes later another bloke asked me for some and I didn't have any, I feel bad that one guy got it and another didn't but if I went round central London giving £1.70 to everyone I honestly think I'd end up homeless myself, there are so many.

if people have to resort to begging then no matter their circumstances or intentions it's a sad, waste of life. Doesn't matter if you give or not but just have compassion that they spend their lives doing this as I'm sure they'd rather not.
